Nesting.... Is it to early?

I am 16 weeks today and I woke up with the strongest urge to redecorate my house (especially my bedroom which we will be sharing with the baby). I want to paint and everything. Is anyone else having urges to start nesting? This is my 5th and I don't recall nesting at all until the very end of my pregnancy. DH thinks I am crazy....lol

You're not crazy! I'm 15 weeks and have already started. It feels so good to clean out stuff and get organized! I say go for it!

I'm feeling the nesting bug. I'm cleaning my entire house today, started laundry, packing clothes that DD doesn't fit into anymore and starting to clear the room that she'll move into once the new baby arrives.

    I feel exhausted already :-O

  • I hope I get the nesting urge soon! I've been so lazy. We moved into our new place over 3 months ago & we're still not completely unpacked. :(

  • I did that yesterday- laundry, cleaned out our office completely to start getting nursery ready, found new places to organize things and then spent 3 hours at buy buy baby. Came home with a new glider and citi mini set. Can't wait to get set up!

I have started to clean out our spare bedroom which will be the nursery. We have also settled on a nursery theme and begun to look at furniture.
Assuming my appointment goes well in 2 weeks, I may start buying a few of the nursery things.

  • My office will be turned into the nursery. I've started doing a little cleaning out. Feels good! I'm ready to get it done. Even thought I know it's early.

I'm just over 13 weeks. We just got back from Lowe's. We ripped out the old carpet and primed the floor. The spare room was previously where the cat box was, and we used to have a spraying male. At lowes, we got new flooring, paint, and a fan. Not sure that I'm nesting, but it feels good to get the mess out. Plus, Lowe's was doing 18 months of interest free credit purchases. So nesting or smart shopping, either way, I'll take it.

  • I really want the nesting bug to nibble on me a bit. My dogs are still blowing their coats so I almost don't see the point of sweeping. I could sweep right this second and in 3 hours it won't look like I did anything.

Today I am managing to do laundry and I went through my closet. I think that's the extent of my usefulness.

  • I've been decorating and cleaning for weeks. Keep thinking I must get it done as I won't have time when the baby comes! Only trouble is it's taking me a long time as I'm knackered and keep needing a break.
  • I have been nesting since we moved into our new house a month ago. It definitely helps to start out with clean space! I clean constantly to maintain it. I don't think it's too early at all. Good luck!

  • I am a little jealous of you ladies, I never got the urge to nest with my first. I had fatigue my whole pregnancy, the basics got done but nothing else. I hope the nesting kicks in at some point.

  • I also never got the nesting urge the first time. I don't have it yet this time either.
  • I get the urge and start off strong but my DH usually sweeps in and saves me from my exhaustion and mess! He has convene to wait to start anything until next week. I will be done teaching for the summer and we will have our genetic testing results back with the baby's gender this week which will help narrow down how I want to decorate. :) Hopefully I will still have the nesting bug by then.....lol
  • Wow! Great job! The nesting has set in for me, but I don't think I have THAT much energy! Envious over here! :)
  • I'm pretty excited... I think the nesting bug has finally hit me! I'm hoping it stays!
  • I've been doing a little here and there but DH is on his game! I don't know if it's possible for men to nest but he's built the crib this week, assembled the glider and started painting the dresser we're going to use. We just bought all of it last week! He's also reorganized the living room and computer room to make it baby friendly. I'm not complaining though ;)

Had to resurrect this thread today. From nowhere, I woke up and went CRAZY today. Husband and children watched in open eyed fear. Decided to go through all the kid's clothes, vaccum packing the stuff that's too small- making lists of what clothes they're in need of, labelling their drawers. Then I started on my linen closet, arranged towels and bedding by colour and size in to baskets. Went through children's bedrooms and tidied their toys to my standards. Tidied and re arranged my bedroom, creating a section in my wardrobe for any new baby bits I've got/been given. Changed everyone's bed sheets, plus two more loads of washing. Cleaned the bathroom- pretty sure you can eat your dinner from my toilet lid. Then I went around the house making a list of everything I want and need done by November (redecorating the front room)

Holy jesus I hope I get bit by this bug soon! I made lists on week 6 and now on week 20 I've done almost nothing. It's starting to feel overwhelming which means I need to get going...but so tired...
  • Yeah this hit me today too...the only problem is the house is so filthy from the past 21 weeks of neglect that all I could get done is basic cleaning and barely any baby related nesting! I do have a beautifully clean empty room now, just waiting for the crib to be put together. Now I just have to make sure it doesn't slowly become the junk room again and that we actually make some progress on the nursery...
  • I am OCD to the extreme when it comes go making list, planning, organizing, and cleaning. I have cleaned out our new nursery and my husband's new office. I have the nursery painted and a few projects done. Tomorrow I am cleaning out all the cabinets and drawers in the house and Tuesday is getting the new office organized. So the nesting for me has really started.

It's just hit me too. We got our crib put up this weekend. We borrowed it from my best friend. Starting to clear out things to get the nursery set up. I've been cleaning out. Even got the husband to move the couch yesterday to vacuum and dust behind it. Trying to get the nursery stuff done now while I still feel good. Next up is finding a dresser.
  • @mamavbs do you do others' houses? If so, I've got a job for you ;)

But seriously. I have great ideas for things I want to do but my lazy bum doesn't want to et off the couch most days. Also it doesn't help that it seems our A/C is on the fritz when we have a heat advisory scheduled for tomorrow :((
  • I'm in full on nesting mode too. We moved (first time home owners!!) in late May and I have 2 months off this summer between jobs. Now that I finally have some time and some energy all I want to do is work on the house and prep for baby! :)

Yesss! We cleaned out our whole office today as that will be the nursery. It's a little smaller than our spare room and closer to our room. We just put the desk and all our weights in the spare room and now have a nice space for baby girl. We're renting right now so I don't want to paint anything till we find the house were going to buy, so I just plan on getting a ton of cutsy things to hang up in the meantime. Will wait to do a really good scrub down of the house when we get a little closer. I somehow got lucky with my bf because he loves a clean house and usually doesn't have any problem helping me clean.
  • I'm moving at the end of the week and going sort of nuts.  Also really worried because furniture is going to be ordered in like 3 weeks and I really feel like I NEED it to be at the new place as soon as we move in so I can make sure it works in the room the way I think it will.

  • We just moved a couple of months ago so I've been cleaning like a nut since then. Because it was so clean when we moved in, its way easier just maintaining.
  • @VexedMommy I moved both times I was pregnant, this is the first time I haven't (although we just had our kitchen re done and we are re decorating instead haha). We were without certain furniture both times and waiting for it to arrive for a few weeks. I drew up plans of where I wanted it to go, which helped to satisfy me a bit. You could use the time to make sure everything else is ready, unpacked etc so then the furniture just needs to be slotted in?

Did you get your way with the bed situation?
  • I did get my way with the bed.  I know it will all work out in the end, I just get anxious about it right now.

  • We're planning on moving before baby gets here, so I feel like I'm so behind on everything. Aside from a few outfits, I've bought nothing for baby. I just started working on the registry a few weeks ago. Oh well - shower in in beginning of Oct, so as long as I'm registered by the end of August I should be good... right? ::insert nervous laughter::
  • @VexedMommy glad you got your own way!
  • I randomly started cleaning my fridge yesterday like very meticulously it was the strangest thing I opened my fridge and immediately had the urge and I've been obsessively cleaning my whole house ever since
  • We are moving a few things around in our apartment and it's driving me crazy because I just want everything to be perfect already and it won't be until we get our crib.. Which we are getting in a few days..
  • Our nursery is mostly done. SO is a contractor, so it's been a very quick process. However, he doesn't want to work all day, then come home and work on his own house. Knowing he CAN do it, and it could be done, but it's not, is driving me crazy. Which I know is crazy because we have plenty of time. I just want crown molding, so it matches the rest of the house :((

Not to hijack, but is bad that I haven't done any nesting? We haven't even registered.... My mil is showering me in September but I was thinking wait till August to create a registry because I'm taking a summer class and thought that would be a fun reward. Is that too long to wait to register?

-side note: we are remodeling the master bath and are currently living in the baby's going-to-be room. So just the construction mess is enough to make me bonkers
