Did anyone have a LEEP before?

Hi ladies! I'm due in August, but due to having a LEEP procedure in dec 2013, I could have this one at any point really. (Will know more Tuesday!)
I'm curious, since many of you have already had your babies, if anyone here had a LEEP before this pregnancy and can you tell me how your labor went? Did you have any issues dialating? Any other info would be helpful!

Thank you!

Re: Did anyone have a LEEP before?

  • I'm also curious about this. I had a LEEP in April of 2014 so not much time had passed before getting pregnant. They checked my cervix at 18 weeks to make sure it wasn't too short and that I didn't need a cerclage. Since I'm now 38+2 I'm not worried about going into labor too early but my OB DID tell me that there could be problems with dilation. Either not happening, or going from a 1 to an 8 without much gradual change which both scenarios kind of make me uneasy. She of course also said that labor could be completely normal!

  • I will say a close friend of mine also had a LEEP and had a completely normal labor.

Good question! I had cryo-freezing of the cervix to remove abnormal cells but didn't end up needing to have the LEEP procedure
  • I had a LEEP done for carcinoma in situ of the cervix (graciously provided to me the Mirena IUD). My cells changed so rapidly (2 weeks time) into cancer, it was terrifying ! I have heard I could have a normal labor, dialate super fast (had prior fast labor) , or not dialate at all due to scar tissue .. Lol I wish I knew!! :) I'll be checked when I have my gbs probe done Tuesday(35 wks) as they are curious to see if I am thinning or dialating yet. I'll be glad to keep you ladies updated if you'd like .
  • Hi ladies, I'm a lurker due on Monday! I had a LEEP about 10 years ago and baby number 2 is almost here. I had no dilating issues with my first. In fact I was induced at 40w5d because he was so happy in there. I labored for a total of 15 hours. As of right now I have an induction scheduled for 41w if this baby doesn't make a move.

My ob says that most of the time those who have had a LEEP tend to go past their due date (because we spend out whole pregnancy worried about pre term labor!).

I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have. I know I had em 2 years ago when I was pregnant!

  • I've taken care of women with a history of a LEEP and other cervical procedures in the past.   What I've seen most often is moms with a strong contraction pattern but minimal cervical change.   Then, all of a sudden, the scar tissue must break and the go from like 1 or 2 cm to 8 or 9 cm in a very short amount of time.

That's how my doctor explained it to me as well though she said it might not happen that way. Thanks for your input!
  • The reason this makes me nervous is because L&D won't keep you if you're not progressed enough and I don't want to be sent home only to have to start pushing the baby on my own at home!
  • I asked my Dr about this at my last appointment. I had my LEEP in February and I have heard of people having to have the scar tissue broken up by the Dr while in labor. She said that it does happen and it is not just one of those crazy things you read about on google but it was no big deal and she just literally takes her fingers in the cervix and scissors them apart to "pop" the scar tissue. If I was planning to go med-free, this would scare me, but I plan to have an epi, so if it comes down to this, NBD. She said on VERY RARE occasions they have to cut it but she said she has done so few over her entire career that I shouldn't worry about that.
  • Had a LEEP Jan 2013 & I am now 38 wk 5 days FTM. I was checked at my last appointment & was dilated to a 4. So I haven't had the baby yet, but everything seems to be going smoothly so far...
