What to sleep in if breastfeeding? Nursing tanks, where do you find them?

For all the mom's that are breastfeeding, what do you sleep in that's comfy with easy access so it's not a big ordeal every time you have to feed? I'm also needing to wear nursing pads because otherwise I leak so I have to wear a comfy nursing bra.

Also, I hear a lot of women say they really like their nursing tanks they got from old navy and target but I can't find any in my local Target and Old Navy. Did you have to order them online? Were they in the actual maternity section of the store?

  • I'm planning on breast feeding (although she's not here yet, so I am just speaking from what others told me).... I got some super comfy nursing tanks at motherhood maternity. It was buy 2 get one free or buy 3 get one free... I also bought one from target, it was in the bra section.... I have yet to have to breastfeed, but the tanks from motherhood are more comfy got me to wear now than the target one... They are a little more expensive. I also got (per recommendation from my best friend who breastfed for a year recently) some nursing sleeping bras from motherhood.., they came in a pack of 2 for I think $20.... Hopefully you find something! Good luck!

Yes I got some nice fairly inexpensive ones at target in store. Have you tried target.com?
  • I have a maternity tank I sleep in now - from target, in the maternity underwear section
  • Target.com is a good place for nursing tanks and some of them are buy 1 get 1 50% off right now :)
  • I ordered mine from target too. Still waiting on LO arrival, but I already love the nursing tanks. They are snug, but stretchy which I like in tanks.
  • Walmart has maternity tanks as well I wore one with my first. But otherwise I just wore my normal pjs. I didn't care how much skin I showed at night. No ones around but my hubby and babies.
  • Macy's carries pea in the pod and motherhood maternity. They have good sales there almost every weekend
  • I just bought some super soft nursing tanks and sleep bras from Motherhood Maternity. They were having a really awesome summer sale not too long ago. I've slept in the tanks and they're comfortable but since the baby's not here yet I haven't had to use the sleep bras.
  • I need to order some I guess, I should've picked some up before :( but in a pinch I found sleeping in my bathing suit (maternity) top worked well. It's basically like a stretchy tank top.
  • Walmart has a good one... I forget the brand but it's in the maternity section. I'll be wearing mine in the hospital after delivery.

I bought some sleeping nursing bras from motherhood maternity in my first tri and have basically lived in them ever since. I have a bunch of mossimo boyfriend vnecks from target that I've worn to sleep through this while pregnancy. These will probably be stretched out from my belly so figured I'd continue and wear the same while BFing and just pull the neck down.

However, when "they" say skin-to-skin, should I be uncovering the baby during feedings (even pre and post)?

  • I'm using sleeping nursing bras I ordered off of amazon and just sleeping in those with pajama bottoms. They are like a sports bra with a very deep v-neck. It makes feeding very easy at night because I don't have to mess with a ton of clothing.
  • Ladies, there's this great tutorial on DIY nursing tanks. As long as you have a nursing bra and cami, you can make one! https://www.babybellykelli.com/diy-nursing-tankcami-in-under-10-mins/
It's stupid easy! I've already made two. I bought some used hand me down nursing bras at $2 each and I swear they are the most comfortable thing a ever! Then I had some camis I had bought from forever 21 for about $3 each. Borrowed some thread and needle and bam! I have a nursing tank that cost me under $6. Try it out ladies! Pinterest will be your best friend!
  • I second Target. Also, I sleep in just a nursing bra bc I get hot. The Medela bras, which I got at Babies R Us are very comfy, but require pads bc they are thin. A Coobie is also great!

I got some 2/20 nursing/sleep bras at motherhood. I also got some from Target (Gillian OMally). My favorite nursing bra is the Stella by Bravado Basics at Target (under 25$). Motherhood also had buy 3/get one on their nursing and sleepwear the other day. I bought some marked down nursing cams for 14.99/ea. Look for deals! I also have some coobies.

  • I wore sleep bras and a deep v neck tops, boob would come out easily. Hated nursing tanks, who wants to unlatch something at 3am???
  • For the ladies like myself who have a weird bra size(& out of control boobs!), no nursing bras or tanks worked for me. I am a 34G now(not looking forward to my milk coming in)...but I found a Victoria's Secret sports bra at the semi-annual sale this year that the straps unsnap in the front! I have been living in it ever sense. Feels nice to have the girls up and under control ;)
It's called the Ultimate & you can find pretty good deals on them on Ebay, Amazon, etc. but I'd pay the $58 for the lift & front snaps that will allow me to breastfeed.
(The 36DDD worked for me, just ask the sales girls & they'll be More than happy to help out a pregnant lady figure out the proper size :) )
  • Oh and I wear a cheap $2 Forever 21 came over it, and the strap slip off easy...but honestly will probably just have a robe over it at home.

@shanasheppard I also bought 4 of the Victoria secret sports bras...(bought one, then one more, then ordered 2 more online because I liked them so much) that unhook on the front in the shoulder straps and can criss cross straps too. I love them and they are so supportive...felt amazing after the old navy sports bras I bought in first trimester just weren't providing enough lift & support (still love those to sleep in though). The Victoria secret sales gal told me some women liked them for breast-feeding too. All my pre-preg. Bras are also Victoria secret...praying to get back into them
  • @ecloho yes! They are perfect! There is nothing like feeling supported :) Girl, me too! I'd Love to be back in my 32D VS bras. I miss them! lol
