We are trading in my two door fun car for a newer (2014 or older to avoid the mark ups!)4 door family car! LOL Here is a list of what I want:
4 door car(no SUV for me)
Decent back seat space
Decent trunk space
SAFETY RATINGS must be high!

Other than that, I really don't care. Does anyone have a car they love that fits that?! I'm just feeling so overwhelmed that I don't know where to start! Thank you for your help!

ETA: DH just bought me a 2014 Malibu!!! I'm in love. Huge trunk and sooo roomy in the backseat!! It's safe, and gets great mpg! Thank you everyone for your comments and advice!

  • Love my Toyota Camry.

  • I have a Ford Fusion that I love. Tons of room in the back seat and trunk. Mine is a 2015 but I've ridden in older models that are just as roomy.

I have a Honda Fit which I love. It's pretty spacey for a small car and has awesome gas mileage.
  • I have a 2009 Ford Fusion and my husband and I love it. It also has something for when we start to hydroplane it like knows what to do. Lol I can't think of how to explain it. But I recommend one
  • Why don't you want an SUV?  Are you planning on having more kids?  I had a Toyota Rav4 before I was pregnant with my first and it definitely wasn't as big as I needed when we tried putting another carseat into it.  My suggestion would be for you to make sure if you're planning on having more kids that your car can fit two carseats without losing the middle seat space.

  • We just got a Chevy traverse love it love that we have the room for 8 not that we need it but love he extra space not too big or try the Acadia similar

We will have another baby in a few years. We want at least one car with 35-45 mpg! My DH already has some gas guzzlers in a giant truck and fast sports car. Lol.

I know you said no SUV, but I have a Honda CRV, which idk if it's really considered an SUV, and I LOVE it. It has tons of room without being huge. I even have 4wd. My inlaws had a Toyota Camry and it was pretty spacious if you definitely want to go the car route. I thought it was nice.
  • I just got a new 2015 Volkswagen Jetta :) I got the black leather interior for easier mess clean up plus my dog is a huge slobber machine. They have a turbo version I think it's the tdi it has crazy mpg. I love them ^.^
  • We have a 2014 Hyundai Sonata. The back seat is actually larger then the back seat of the 2014 Santa Fe. (I will have 3 so I brought a tape measure). My husband drives it and he is a realtor so he has to have plenty of space for signs and golf clubs. Lol. I have a 2015 Sonata that we paid considerably more money for and I actually like the 2014 better. It's sportier, but still family friendly.

    Good luck with your search.
  • I loved my diesel Passat
  • Love my ford fusion. It's a few years old but very comfy and good on gas.
  • We have a Honda Accord Sport 2013 model, and I really love it! The Sport model gives it nice rims and a more fun look, but it has a lot of space inside. My friend has a Jeep Grand Cerokee and says my car has as much or more leg room. The trunk is spacious, and we just love the Honda brand!
  • I second the Toyota Camry. I bought a used 2012 Camry SE last year and I love it. The leg and seat space is good, trunk space is also good. My husbands work car is a corolla and I hate to get in it after being in my car because it feels so small! Plus mine has the option to switch from auto to manual, which is fun for me plus is great to use in traffic. The only thing I suggestion is not getting one that's black with black leather seats, looks nice but gets hot in the sun :/ oh also has front and side air bags, and a 5 star safety rating.
  • Another vote for Ford Fusion. I love mine. I think I have to give it up since we are on baby number three, but mine is a 2008 has 93,000 miles and has been so reliable. It has great safety ratings and does very well on gas.
  • Hands down VW Passat! ! My 6'2 husband can fit comfortably I. The back seat while someone else is in The front seat and the person in the front seat does NOT have to pull their seat up for him. AND it is an extremely safe car! I was rear ended by a guy running a red light while I was stopped in traffic into the car in front of me and although my Passat was totaled it did not look like a bad wreck at all. The frame is made to carry the load of a crash and it did that amazingly.

I have a 2012 GMC Acadia and I love it. I owned a Traverse before and it was just as nice to drive. The only flaw I see is the the backseats are on a bit of a slope and some car seats are hard to get level. As for gas mileage, I get around 25 mpg.
  • I just bought a Kia sorento which is considered a SUV crossover. And I love it. But in my research the honda crv( also an SUV crossover) is on the smaller side of SUV' with great safety rating and tons of space. Before that we got a Hyundai elantra, which is an awesome 4 door car with great ratings, but the only problem is we are both really tall and with the car seat in the back the passenger seat can get a little cramped.
  • My husband just got the Chevy Malibu and he absolutely loves it! Huge back seat and trunk! I have the Chevy Equinox, which for a mid size SUV is great as well!!! Happy car shopping!!!!
  • My Jeep Patriot is better on gas that DH's Ford Fusion.  Great amount of space, lower to the ground to easy to get toddlers and babies into and out of car seats.

It is a 2015 but I assume the 14's are pretty comparable.  I did test drive a Chevy Malibu which had good mileage and space but went with the better residual value (plus insurance was lower on the Jeep).

I had a Liberty for years before we just bought this one and I love all Jeeps, we also live in Michigan so I prefer an SUV for winter driving.

We have a Nissan Versa, which is DH's commuter car. It's great on gas mileage and is fairly roomy for a small car. We loved for our whole family but getting an infant seat, booster seat, and kid in the backseat will be extremely rough.

Our other car is an Acura MDX, which is an SUV with an optional 3rd row. It has a really spacious backseat. I love it.

But if you're looking for something not quite so big, I'd look into a Subaru. I had one for almost 10 years and it was truly the best car I've ever had. If it weren't for 3 kids, I'd still be driving it. Mine was a '93 and it's still going...just with a kid from my youth group and not with us :-)
  • I drive a Subaru crosstrek and I love it! I was a Toyota driver for years before I got the Subaru 2 years ago and both types have awesome safety ratings...my Subaru is by far my most favourite car I've ever owned (in my other cars defense, it was also the first new car I ever bought) will probably have to upgrade to a forester coz we have 2 dogs and I am not sure if it will be a squeeze with 2 dogs plus baby and baby stuff...will see... but I don't think I will ever drive anything but a Subaru. Also, depending where you live of course, the all wheel drive makes winter/snow driving so much easie!
  • I have a 2015 dodge journey keep in mind they make a 2014 that's comparable but I easily get 33mpg high way driving and it's got a third row that folds completely flat and lots of storage space were able to get both the diono convertible car seat and the infant seat in comfortably and rear facing while getting kids in and out without losing middle space....
