Is anyone else's baby eating only 3oz? My LO started off eating about 4oz when she was born but then gradually started taking less. We breast feed and bottle feed & im not sure if it's because I'm not producing enough milk?
Each child is different. By 2 months, ours was taking anywhere between 4 and 6 ounces per feed, about every 3-4 hours. Now she's eating 6 ounces every feed, every 2-3 hours and she's just turned 3 months. We're thinking we might start her on cereal soon. As long as they're still gaining weight and making progress towards milestones, I wouldn't worry.
Just keep in mind that your LO is probably getting more milk from your breast. If LO isn't fussy after nursing, he's content. As a warning of inadequate milk supply, babies are fussy and dissatisfied
Have you tried burping after every ounce? Our pedi told us the more air out the more food they can get in. It takes a lot of time but we moved from 3-4, to now 6-7 ounces a feeding and only are doing 4 bottles a day. He's 3-1/2 months.
We do 4oz every 3 to 4 hours (he just went up to 4oz last week; 3 oz every 2 hours previous). Our LO is 11 weeks. Our pediatrician said once he takes 4 oz every 2 hours then increase by an ounce and so on. I bf at night and pump/ bottle feed during the day (working full time).
My 12 wk old does 3.5 oz 8 times per day. She was a preemie and still a little bit (9 lbs) though. She started at 3lb though so we are making great progress! We do burp every oz - it's annoying but necessary to even get the 3.5 oz digested.
