Light headed?

Yesterday, late evening I started getting light headed so I thought going to bed would help. Instead I felt light headed all night even though I was lying down. I have continued to feel light headed all day. (It will be 24 hours soon) I called the doctor on call this morning and was told to relax today and drink tons of water which I've been doing. I took my blood pressure three times, it was low each time but not scary low. I do sometimes have low blood pressure and I am borderline anemic. I'm obviously concerned for the baby and concerned that if this doesn't get better something may happen to her. I have my regular check up appointment Monday but I'm scared of going another day like this tomorrow.

Re: Light headed?

  • I don't have any advice other than what the doctor said. I think drinking lots of water and making sure to rest until Monday will be your best bet. I would def call again if you begin to see spots or faint. Otherwise, just take the doctors advice. Hope you feel better!

It's actually very common during pregnancy. Drink ice cold water, the temperature helps to jolt you and the extra water will help increase blood pressure. Also try nibbling on some more snacks. Your blood sugar may be dropping which would explain why laying down without eating didn't help much. I find fiber one bars help a lot. Hope you feel better soon.
  • I had low blood pressure all through out my pregnancy with my son. It got to the point where I took a shower and fainted in there because it dropped suddenly. I also have the same issue now with this baby. Just make sure u drink a lot of water. Avoid hot showers (I only take baths at this point in pregnancy since what happened with my son) and take frequent breaks if ur on ur feet a lot. Whenever I feel a little dizzy I take a seat and drink a bottle of water. I know it's not much but hope this helps!
  • I agree with PP drink lots of water, avoid heat, do not have a hot shower it will make it worse. And try eating more frequently. And just relax. Feeling light headed is very common for some during pregnancy. Hope that helps, and that it gets better for you. :)

  • I almost fainted a few weeks ago at 22 weeks. My doctor mentioned blood sugars dropping and said this was normal for this stage. She recommended the same things your doctor did. I also found putting my hands under freezing cold water from the faucet helps. Ill just sit down by the bath tub and put my hands under the faucet. Snaps me of of it.
