September 2015 Moms

So anxious for baby to get here!

Whenever I see the OB she keeps talking about the baby going to full term and if we have to induce, she will a few days before the due date (September 1) but no longer than 40 weeks. She said we should consider when we want to induce, either in August or the actual due date because of school. If she's born in August, she can start school at 4, but if she's born in September, she'll start preschool at age 5.

  • Why would your OB induce you before your due date?  Unless there are health risks that you didn't mention in your post I don't think it's necessary to be induced until after your due date.  I don't think you should even be thinking about your baby starting preschool as a reason to induce. Pitocin sucks and I would much rather my labor start on it's own!

  • I agree I'm confused about why they would want to induce before your due date but maybe there is a legitimate reason you just didn't mention?

I really don't think preschool age is a reason to induce early. I don't understand why people concern themselves so much with getting kids into preschool and kindergarten as early as possible.

  • Maybe this will give clarification, I have GD, so there's a concern that baby will be bigger. Also, she said for ivf babies, she will not let you go to 41 weeks. That's a follow up question I need to ask the OB the next time I see her. Why is having an ivf baby different where induction would be necessary. Sorry to confuse everyone. I want baby to be in there as long as she wants.
  • As a teacher, I can tell you the age policy will probably change before they are old enough to go to school. So don't bade it on that. I've been teaching 6 years and this policy has changed 4 times in those 6 years. Hope you and baby are healthy. Do what's best for your bodies.

Macrosomia is NOT a medical reason to induce.

  • I found that my older students were generally more likely to be successful - academically & socially - at school. Not that a younger student would not be, but maturity can be a big factor (especially in middle school). Just something to consider.

Wishing you a most healthy delivery!!
