Subchorionic hemorrhage??? Scared!!!

I am a first time mom, 37. My husband and i went through IVF so this is our miracle baby. I am 7 weeks 5 days, due on Feb. 22. Last night went to the ER because I started bleeding heavily while standing in line in Target. Was diagnosed with SCH. Thankfully and prayerfully my baby was healthy with a very strong heartbeat. I was told this can be very common during the 1st trimester and most women go on to have healthy pregnancies and babies. But I'm freaking out now. I am on bedrest for the next few days. Anyone else have this?

Re: Subchorionic hemorrhage??? Scared!!!

  • I had one with my first pregnancy. Went to the er and the doctor was less than comforting. Told me I would most likely miscarry. Followed up with my ob and she told me the exact opposite. They're very common and usually clear up with time. I was on pelvic rest and it cleared up by 13 weeks. Try not to stress and know that they really are common. I know how scary it is, but I have a beautiful toddler now. I've known multiple women personally who have had one and all of them have healthy babies.

  • I had one with my second child. Found around the same time (6.5/7 weeks) and went away by 16 weeks. It was also right next to baby, which made me nervous, but just listen to your dr- no lifting, sex, vigorous exercise, etc until it goes away. My dr monitored it by ultrasound every 4 weeks until it was gone. Didn't cause any complications otherwise.

I did with my last pregnancy. That's actually how I found out I was pregnant lol I now have a beautiful and healthy 13 month old. He's never had any medical issues, and had always been a healthy little chunk. Good luck mama! I know it's essier said than done, but try not to stress. SCH is pretty common. One of my best friends had it too with her last pregnancy and she has a healthy 4 month old. Sending good vibes your way!!
  • No advice but I'm sorry that happened, at target no less! I hope PP advice calms your nerves. Xo

  • I read this: www.mamainstincts.com. Her latest post is on her SCH and how she made it through. (Not my blog)
  • If you use the search function, you'll find a few of us here have had it too. I'm ivf too and had my SCH bleed at 6wks 4days. At the time we were devastated and assumed a mc.
I didn't go to the ER, just went to my RE the next day. The suggested "taking it easy" and try to avoid lifting my 30 lb son, but said they don't have any evidence if bed rest helps. I was sitting on my couch doing absolutely nothing when my bleed happened.
Anyhow, I haven't had any further red bleeding, but just a heads up, starting about a week later, I had gunky brown spotting for about 2 weeks. Yuck!! They said it was the remaining old blood working it's way out.

  • I had a subchorionic hemorrhage with my last pregnancy (surrogacy), the OB told me that with IVF it is way more common and not to worry, just take it easy, rest a lot, no exercise for awhile, and no lifting more than 15 lbs. Happy and healthy little guy was born in January.

Thank you all. This helps me feel much better to know this a condition that is more common than we know.
  • I've had one too since about 5 weeks (10+2 now) I wasn't put on bed rest but took it a bit easy- haven't had any more bleeding since and bubs looks fine at the mo. I think in most cases it's nothing to worry about :)
  • @pndawk , ivf ftm here too. I just wanted to say that I'm sure it will resolve. Try and put your feet up a bit more. Sending lots of positive vibes your way. Hugs.
  • During my ultrasound at 8wks the tech saw I had a SCH too. I haven't had bleeding from it yet but my midwife assured me it was no big deal and very common.
  • This happened to me Friday. I am 7 weeks due Feb 27. I woke up and found bright red blood. We rushed to the hospital sure that I was miscarrying but they did a ultrasound and the heartbeat was normal. Went to the dr the next day and they confirmed SCH now I'm on bed rest and generally freaked out. I'm not sure at all what to expect and the wait and see answers are so hard.

I haven't and can't imagine what you're going through. Praying for you!
  • Hi. I got told I had one at 5 weeks. Luckily, it was small enough that it either got absorbed or the baby is much bigger now that this last US the doc couldnt see it. I havent bled, but had some pain associated with it. The doc told me the same thing, that it is common and ppl go on to have full term pregnancies...she even shared that she had one too. Just keep up with the doc's orders to take it easy and no exercise, heavy lifting, or sex. Hoefully if gives you peace of mind to know that we are all praying for you and with you in this. <3<3 Keep us posted!

Ladies with SCH- Did your docs give you the rec to take it easy, no lifting, sex, etc? Mine didn't say anything like that! She acted like it was no problem at all. Could it affect the pregnancy?
  • @charliegoldengirl , like I said above, all my doctor said was to take it easy and try not to lift my toddler as much. But mine also didn't treat it like a big deal. No bed rest or pelvic rest was recommended. I think the recommendations vary because it's usually unknown why they happen or if anything really helps them resolve. But maybe doctors also vary the recommendations based on how big yours is? Call your doc and ask if you're worried.
