3rd Trimester

Braxton Hicks

Hi All,

So i've had braxton hicks contractions for a few weeks now but they only came like 3 times a day or so. Today is a completely different story and already contacted my doctor (who apparently is out of town :( ) and spoke with the nurse. I wanted to get your opinions and get to know your experiences. I started tracking my braxton hicks contractions at 10:27am but had 4 contractions prior to this time. So far i've been able to track them at the following times: 10:27, 10:37, 10:41, 10:46, 10:55, 11:00, 11:03, 11:08, 11:20, 11:29, 11:57, 12:10, 12:17, 12:22, 12:27, 12:35, 12:47, 12:57, 1:18, 1:52. I am not in any pain or discomfort but the nurse said if I continue to have these contractions and between 4-6 per hour that I will need to go to the hospital to be monitored. I have explained that I am in no type of pain and they only feel like slight menstral cramps that go away within 15-30 seconds. The only real pain I have is in my groin area which I assume is part of my round ligament pain that i've had for several months now. I also feel slight pain in the lower belly region but only when I walk. I sit most of hte day so since I'm not on my feet, I dont feel anything painful. What wanted to know your stories on how you've dealt with these types of contractions, did you experience something similar, did you need to go into the hospital to be monitored, if so...what was outcome?

Thanks!

Re: Braxton Hicks

  • I experienced this!! It lasted for 6 hours one night. I had the crampy feeling and also had lower back pain. I called the nurse she told me to take Tylenol and drink lots of water. I took two Tylenol and drink some water and ended up finally falling asleep. The next morning I was getting ready to go to work and started feeling the contractions again I called my doctors office and they told me to come in and did some monitoring they also did a vaginal test that they sent me to the hospital with for faster results. The hospital put me in a bed and continued to m

  • Sorry.. The hospital put me in a bed and continue to monitor the contractions. They gave me a lot of water to drink and that was actually what made the contractions slowly stop. Later the results came back for The sample that they took at the doctors office, for early labor and that came back negative. So I was having a false labor was what the nurse said.. And if it was to happen again to drink lots of water like I did there. Hope that helps :)

It's a tightening of the stomach. Imagine balling up your fist. That is basically what a BH is. Your stomach will get tight all around the baby, then loosen. Sometimes it even sticks out to one side.
  • OP how far along are you?

With my second child, I had a TON of BH contractions but once the real contractions started in, I didn't realize it until it was too late and I nearly had the baby in the car. For real. Just monitor yourself and don't feel bad about going in if that's the advice a nurse gives you.

  • I've been having what I thought were Braxton hicks until I had a non stress test yesterday and the dr pointed out that I'm having REAL contractions. They definitely don't hurt at this point, I only feel pressure down below. They are still very speratic also, but I'm keeping close eye as my cousin had same issue until she was 6 cm dilated then they got crazy...thankfully she made it to the hospital with time to spare (but not much! )
