Waking up with contractions

will be asking dr once they're open, but in meantime, has anyone been waking up to Braxton hicks contractions? Every morning this week I have been and I had called dr beginning of week and they said probably dehydrated but it keeps happening and I'm definitely drinking more fluids....anyone similar? How to balance drinking a lot and trying not to pee all night if it's from dehydration? Starting to scare me

Re: Waking up with contractions

  • I haven't had this. But do you switch positions or walk around since you've been laying down? How long do they usually last? And do you know how much water you are actually drinking? It may help to get like a gallon of water and set drinking goals for yourself throughout the day so your not super thirsty at night.

  • It happens when I'm sleeping and wakes me up, I would say an hour each morning (not consistently but on and off for an hour)
I've been drinking 80oz per day at least so can't see how I could be getting dehydrated enough over the few hours I do sleep to cause this every night. They're not painful but are very uncomfortable...
  • I was having them a few weeks ago and knew I wasn't getting enough fluids I upped my water and now I drink about 90 oz a day and try to get all my fluids in early so I'm not up all night. I usually stop drinking by 9pm.
  • I know my OB always suggests if I start to get contractions to switch what I'm doing so since you are sleeping you would have to get up and move around (which sucks I'm sure you just want to sleep!)

Keep us posted on what the dr says!
  • Just wanted to throw it out there that water logged is a great app to track how much water you drink each day.
  • Also, if anyone is interested, they have water bottles that keep track of your water intake as well. You set either your weight or your goal in ounces and hit start every morning. As you refill your bottle and drink throughout the day, it tells you what % of your water you've finished.

We ordered ours from daytimer, but other places sell them as well.
  • Dehydration can be one culprit, but a full bladder is another! As PPs have mentioned, getting up and walking around is suggested in many cases, but you could also use that time to empty your bladder. I hope you can get the sleep you need :)

  • They wake me up too if my bladder is full and also sometimes just to switch positions. A couple of times I have had to get up and walk around for my uterus to relax. It is very annoying! Some of us just get them more than others no matter how much water we drink.
  • If i have a full bladder i wake up with bh. And then peeing is so painful. This babies position keeps him off my bladder more than my girls ever were but then i hold back the urge and end up cramping when i pee. It's awful. I get bh often. They aren't a bad thing. They tone the uterus for birth. But they can be hint that your water intake is off if they don't settle down. My stomach was rock hard over the 4th weekend and i couldn't drink enough water to keep up.
  • I wake up with them all the time. I get them when my bladder is full and I get them when I'm dehydrated, so I'm doomed to have them no matter what. I'm managing them by drinking a lot during the day and tapering off in the evening, which means I only wake up twice each night with BH, needing to pee.
  • This happened the other morning after a weird dream. I'm pretty sure I didn't take in enough water the day before, but it freaked me out because I initially thought my dream was to blame.
  • I get them every time I bend forward (like to put on shoes, pick something up off the floor, etc). Yesterday, I dropped my pen, stared at it and really had to contemplate just getting a different pen. I had a, "you're pregnant not incapacitated" moment and picked it up. That decision-making capacity may change in the near future.
  • Try drinking most of your water earlier in the day, so that you get the intake that you need. But taper off towards the evening so you don't have to get up as much at night.
  • I woke up last night from one but it doesn't last long. How far along are you?
