Anyone else not sleeping?

Am I the only one not sleeping here lately?  I am 38w+5d and I can honestly count on two hands how much sleep I have gotten in the past 3 days!
I guess I am getting anxious about the baby coming and also have retreated to the recliner in the living room now since laying in bed is too cumbersome and uncomfortable...but come on!! You would think exhaustion would have set in by now!  My sweet husband has also retreated to the couch next to me and has been snoozing away!
Anyone else laying awake through the nights?

Re: Anyone else not sleeping?

  • I had to take Benadryl at least every other night. (Per docs order) I have had insomnia since birth (literally)
And Benadryl is very safe for pregnancy, so much better then that ambien crap they give you in the hospital. With my 2nd child I was hospitalized a lot because of pre eclampsia and the nurses would come in all hours of the night and lecture me about still being awake, so they demanded I take ambien.. Those kinds of meds don't even put me to sleep, they make me all weird and then when I do fall asleep,'it's very weird.
Benadryl and melatonin work best, and are great. (Melatonin is best, and natural.. But not safe for pregnancy)

Anyways.. I hope you get some sleep soon. Once baby is born... Well you know.

  • Yeah I'm this way too. Even if I do fall asleep it's every hour or two that I get up and use the restroom. It doesn't usually take me long to fall asleep after that but I just don't stay asleep for long. It seems that my naps during the day help more then my sleep at night. So I make sure I sleep when my daughter does. Good luck! I hope you get some rest. We'll all need it before babies come.
  • Yup I'm awake and have been since 1 am. I'm uncomfortable in bed and regardless of how tired I am, can't seem to fall back asleep once I'm awake. My arms go numb and then I eventually get hungry if I'm awake for long enough. I finally gave up tonight (this morning?) and got up to make toast and read my book on the couch. Good practice for baby's arrival? I wish I could be resting up lots right now instead!
  • Same here I can't take naps during the day. I work full time still. I am 38 weeks and 1 day. I am so moody I just want to stay home and sleep. But I am off to work. I keep waking up to use the restroom and its getting hard to move in bed.
  • I'm right there with you! 37+1 and feeling like a zombie. Haven't got a decent night of sleep since so started having preterm labor at 35 weeks. Now if it's not my anxiety, it is getting up to pee, heartburn, baby kicks, leg cramps or back pain. Just trying to get in what I can, asked hubby if we can take a nap this afternoon together...we are party animals on the weekends... I tell ya! I-) Looking forward to a lazy afternoon.
  • I second the Benadryl advice.  I've been taking Tylenol PM (Acetomenophin + Benadryl) since ~32 weeks almost every night per my midwife's instructions.  It has helped immensely!
Even with the meds, I wake up at 4:30 each morning first to pee, then to eat, and then I am up until 6:30 because I am too mentally alert.  It's important to get enough rest before labor begins.
  • I will be 40 weeks tomorrow, and I feel like I haven't slept good in weeks. It seems like I just roll around in the bed all night, that is when I'm not thirsty or having to pee. Not to mention SO works third shift so I'm all alone in the bed, which I hate!! But I guess I will be ready to get up every two hours to bf the baby when she decides to make her appearence!
