Ultrasound question

Hi everyone! So I had my ultrasound on Monday.. and it didn't go as well as I had hoped. My last period started on May 8th, so I thought I was about 8 weeks along- but on the ultrasound, the baby showed up with the yolk sac and measured around 6 weeks 3 days. The heart was beating, but was only 65bpm. My doctor said I could just be 6 weeks along, but I could also be about to miscarry. Has this happened to anyone else? I have another US next Tuesday, but I am freaking out. It is my first time pregnant and I am 32.

Re: Ultrasound question

  • I have no advice, but I am pretty sure I read another post where someone mentioned they had a slow hb and then later had a strong hb and healthy baby. Sorry I'm not much help but sending lots of T&P your way! Sticky baby dust!

  • No advice, just try not to google a lot because doctor Google can mess with your head.

  • It is possible that you ovulated later and are actually not as far along. Hope the time passes quickly and you get good news at your next appt.
  • No advice but fx for a strong heartbeat at your next appointment!

  • My dr told me that the heartbeat fluctuates and starts off very low in the beginning. T & P!
  • I had an ultrasound at 6 weeks 2 days, with a heart beat of 93.. My doctor told me that I was most likely going to miss carry.
We had another ultrasound at 8 weeks and the heart beat was 156! And was told everything looked fantastic.
I go back at 12 weeks on July 21, still worried but feeling postive everything is still fantastic.

Hope this helps, stay postive! The heart is just starting to beat around six weeks.

Good luck and stay positive <3
  • Good luck and I'll keep my FX for you! I think a lot of doctors base possible miscarriage on how fast/slow the heart rate is. I ended up miscarrying after an US with a low heart rate but this pregnancy when I had my first US (new office) she said they try not to base too much off that because that early the heart could have just started beating. I think doctors just tell you about the possible bad outcomes to prepare you in case it happens and they don't want to blow sunshine and rainbows up your butt in case the worst does happen. I feel they have been trained to tell you the bad and not the good because you people who hear good and bad will go back and sue a doctor if the bad happens. Make sense?

  • My doctor also said my baby was small (I thought I was about 7 weeks, but was measuring around 6), and the HR was only 108, but she said it's normal to start off slow. She didn't seem too worried, and said we would be suprised at how much bigger and stronger the baby would be. We get to see on Tuesday! Fx for you!
  • Thank you so much, everyone!
