2 positive home tests, but Dr urine test came back negative?

So here is my situation... my last period was June 2nd. I calculated my next period/ovulation dates by entering my last 3 period dates into a websites calculator (https://www.m.webmd.com/baby/healthtool-ovulation-calculator). The result was June 30, 2015. I waited until July 4th to take a test. I woke up that morning took my first test, positive! Yay! Little baby! Just in case, I took the next one about 4 hours later, positive again, yes! Well, I went to my doctor today and took a urine test there, negative...? They said certain hormones are sometimes present and can change the results. Okay, I understand that, so I asked for a blood test to rule out one of the results from the urine test. They said they'd call me tomorrow with the results.

We want a baby but I don't want to get attached to the idea and then it not be real.

I've got some early pregnancy symptoms like exhaustion, nausea, sore nipples, moodiness and hot flashes. I'm 29 years old and have already had one child, who will be 4 years old next month.

I bought a different brand test today to take. I hope it brings me piece of mind :/

So I guess my question is, has anyone gone through something similar? If so, what were the results?

Sorry it took so long to get to that :/ just wanted to share the back story.

Update: I took the third, different brand test, and I got another positive! So my spirits are back up! :D

I wouldn't worry about it too much.  Pregnancy tests like FRER are more sensitive than the ones they use at the doctor's office.  If you've gotten 3 positive pregnancy tests, then you are pregnant!  Congrats, and enjoy the March'16 BMB.  There are some great ladies over there. :)

  • Same thing happened to me - two positives at home and then a negative at the doctors office! The doc told me it's extremely rare to have a false positive so we did the blood test ... Preggers! He said the home tests are designed to detect the hormones very early so are more sensitive than the one in-office. But I know your exact feeling of "I was excited...but now maybe I shouldn't be? I don't want to be disappointed!"

Good luck and keep us posted!
  • The same thing happened to me. The only difference was that at the end of my appt. my doctor tested one more time; came back positive. She just chalked it up to barely being a couple of weeks into my pregnancy.

    Hang in there.
  • They called with the results and said that the test came back at 105, which means I'm pregnant! Then they said I have to go get more labs done next week to be sure the count is going up, just to confirm I'm pregnant. :/ I didn't have to go back for a second test for my first pregnancy, does this sound right to any of you?

Congrats!  Yes, that is normal.  They will want to make sure your HCG levels are increasing accordingly.  I think that is pretty common practice, now.

I started bleeding and having minor cramping the same day that I got the results. Have been bleeding since, the cramping got a little more intense and I received an ultrasound yesterday. The tech said that she couldn't find a baby, but that I also might not be far enough along to see anything on either an internal or external ultrasound. They want me to still come back Monday for blood work to see if I'm still pregnant. Trying not to worry, but that's easier said than done since I no longer have morning sickness, sore nipples, etc. Just wanted to give everyone an update. Will post another update when I get the lab results back.
  • Update: I did end up miscarrying. :( I kind of knew when all my pregnancy symptoms disappeared.

I'm sorry for your loss, but symptom loss is not an indication of the health of a pregnancy.

I'm so sorry. It's not easy and it's always hard to fathom. I just spotted tiny bit of pink just now and took a frer (5w2d) and its super faint. I think it's going to happen to me soon too. All I keep thinking and you should too is at least your body is trying and it can! That gives me a piece of mind. Mine could have been prevented my old doctor didn't think I needed to up my thyroid or progesterone and my new doctor immediately did that. So that kind of pisses me off. However it is what it is. Stay strong and positive and try to look at the brighter things in all of this. It'll be ok.
  • I'm so sorry for your loss. Please take care of yourself.
