Poll for FTMs: When did you deliver relative to EDD?

I'm curious if the old wives tale is true that FTMs deliver late... (Of course I went 9 days early and then was totally unprepared since I had heard this so often!)

I'm a data nerd, so let's get some data!

For first-time moms: when did you deliver relative to your EDD (estimated due date)?

For those who are not FTMs, feel free to vote based on your first child.

Poll for FTMs: When did you deliver relative to EDD? 122 votes

  • I was induced at 1 week past due date exactly. Dunno how that figures your data. Obviously it was after, but who knows if it would have gone longer than 41 weeks without intervention

  • Induced at 36 weeks
  • My water broke on its own at 35+2... Middle of the night. Classic sitcom style gush and everything. Was so NOT prepared. I had twins though, so not sure if this will mess up the poll since they like to come early anyways
  • 39+1 about 24 hours after membranes were stripped, went into early labor about 6 hours after.
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
  • LO was born literally 5 minutes before my due date...she came out at 11:55pm at 39+6. I do like to be 5 minutes early all the time, so she probably got that from me!

Active labor with regular contractions started around 10am that day, though I had random contractions here and there overnight starting around 3am.
  • LO was born at 40+6, did acupuncture for induction the evening of day 40+4
  • 40+4. Went in at midnight after contractions came on strong at 10pm and had her at 9:49am the next morning.
  • I'm a stm but voted on my first pregnancy. I went at 40+1. I was induced due to high fluid levels, so not sure how long I would have gone if there was no intervention. This time around I had twins. I had a scheduled c-section at 38+2. I would've gone longer had I not had the scheduled surgery. Everyone was shocked I went so long.

Good point, I didn't account for inductions! The poll is not going to be 100% scientific anyway, so just use your best judgement :)

@virginiaunicorn11 I work with Germans, and yeah, I am not surprised they plan on the due date!

I was 38+4 when my water broke, 38+5 when LO arrived. I had an OB appt the day before and was only fingertip dilated and not much going on. I was stunned when my water broke about 45 minutes before I would have been on a commuter train to go to my last day working in the office. Thank goodness for that timing because that train ride is like 50 minutes and would have been uncomfortable for everyone involved!

I had planned on working from home in week 39, had meetings scheduled and everything!

  • 39+2 for DS. But I was also told women who work out throughout pregnancy tend to be early.
  • 40+5 for my first
  • STM but voted based on my first. With DD I was induced at 42 wks so I obviously went late. I did have to be induced this time around too so I guess my kids are comfortable in there!
  • 37 weeks and 1 day. We thought we were prepared but so not. I totally thought I'd go late too.
  • @hoodoll82 I didn't work out once during pregnancy. Or the last year. Or the year before. So...NOPE! =))

  • I'm not a FTM, and this was my 6th pregnancy, but LO came at exactly 39 weeks with a scheduled induction. I'm not sure if I would have made it to my June 11th due date or not.
  • Went into labor at 39 weeks + 6. Delivered about 3 hours before my due date

@SweetnessG FTM but same here. Only I was due June 1. I'm pretty sure I probably would have gone over EDD.

Hahahahahahahaha. Ahem. Sorry. I can count the times I worked out on one hand! :)
I was also told women who work out have shorter and "easier" deliveries. I can vouch for shorter, but as for easier, I'd like to punch whoever started that myth in the throat.

I was only in labor for about 14 hours, which I guess is pretty short to average...but I wouldn't describe the 8 hours of pre-epidural excruciating back labor I had as "easy" despite the fact that I worked out to the bitter end. The 2.5 hours of pushing due to a sunny side up baby was also not easy. I guess I'd have really hated my delivery if I hadn't been working out?

FTM, not induced and delivered on due date. We were trying hard to avoid an induction. :)
Worked out until the end and had 5 hr delivery. easy?? Well, I guess the fact that it was short and baby was in the right position made it less terrible than it could have been.

I had a quick and pretty "easy" delivery (4 hours of labor, 20 min pushing, all natural); and I worked out thought out my pregnancy. LO was born a week late, and I was induced, fwiw.
DH was a firstborn and was over a week late, LO was over nine pounds and 22.5 in long- guess he just wanted to cook a little longer!

My water broke at 36w 4 days and LO was born that afternoon. My OB said that next pregnancy they'll send me to a high risk doctor since he was technically preterm.
  • I was also induced for high blood pressure. Glad she was a little early though she was causing mama problems! Lol
