Pregnant after IF

Baby Ryan Patrick has arrived!!

Hi everyone! Baby Ryan Patrick has arrived at 34 weeks following an induction due to pprom at 24 weeks 3 days. He was born today (July 2) at 2:22pm. He weighed 5lb 13oz and is 19 1/2 inches long! He came out crying!

I've had the most exhausting and emotional day. They started pitocin at midnight and I slept until 3am. Then the contractions started. I was 2cm dilated at 6am and still was 2cm at 9am and was in intense pain. So I got an epidural...thank The Lord for that! Then I dilated to 5cm at 11:30am and was them fully dilated at 1:00pm. I pushed for a little under an hour and a half...the doctor did have to cut me a bit to help him out of the birth canal. The entire nicu team, labor and delivery team, and respiratory team was present for his birth. They looked at him quick and then allowed me to do skin to skin contact. My husband cut the cord. They then assessed him so more and have him a 7 and 8 on Apgar scores and wrapped him in a blanket. They then let me hold him and allowed my husband and I to take some pictures. Then they took him to the nicu (my husband went with them while my mom stayed with me). The dr stitched me up and I stayed in recovery for about 90 minutes because of the stitches and my epidural wasn't wearing off.

My husband kept calling me to give me updates until I could go see him. As of right now (knock on wood) he's breathing on room air. He's in an icubator to help keep him warm and he does have a feeding tube in. They tried to bottle feed him but he wasn't having in. I'm trying to pump but so far no luck. He's beautiful and we can't decide who he looks like more lol. He's got a good grip and loves to grasp my husband and my finger. They said we can bring in clothes for him to wear too!

Fingers crossed all continues forward with him and we don't have any set backs! The nicu is on the 2nd floor and my husband and I are on the "mother baby floor" on the 4th floor. I'm getting ready to call down to the nicu for the night then try to get some sleep before I have to be up to try pumping again in 2-3 hours. Thanks for the good thoughts and prayers everyone!!

Re: Baby Ryan Patrick has arrived!!

  • Congrats!! He's so perfect!! You did an excellent job at keeping him baking for this long. Fx that he continues to do well and you heal quickly. How long will he be in the nicu? Gl with pumping I know that can be a challenge. Has the lactation consultant come in to help? Use and abuse that service!

  • Thanks ladies!! No idea how long he will be in the nicu. He still needs to feed successfully and regulate his body temp. They keep saying they may switch him to an open crib soon but will give him a few days still to get adjusted. I met with the lactation consultant today and went over a lot of info. Fingers crossed my milk comes in! I got to do kangaroo care with him this morning and my husband is currently doing it with him while I type this. I've attached a picture of How he was when we came into his nicu unit station tonight :)
