Just had our 20 week US and baby has a slightly enlarged ureter on one side so we have to go follow up with a level 2 US. Has anyone else had their baby be diagnosed with this? Just curious if anyone else is in the same boat.
My nephew had that problem. My SIL had several high level U/S's and they were considering doing surgery on the baby while he was still inside her before he was born but they decided to wait. He ended up being fine when he was born and they just watched him and he had an U/S every couple of months for the first year. He's almost 4 now and is doing good but he has to pee more often than normal.
The ureter is the duct that goes from the kidney to the bladder. It could be a sign of a blockage in the urinary system, or it could be benign. Happens in 1% of boys and .5% of girls
I did not have this specifically but I had lvl 2 u/s with my son (kidney related). I would try not to worry to much this early on and take comfort that it is being monitored closely. It's highly possible it could correct itself.
I've not had this experience, but am sorry you're dealing with it. I think its scary anytime something is noticed that is out of the norm with any type of ultrasound or testing. It sounds like there is a good chance this may self correct. Thinking of you!
A friend of mine had this with her daughter and they thought they would have to do surgery when she was born, but by the time she was born it completely fixed itself! Prayers heading your way!
Think you're ok. No back up swelling of kidney? Hydroureter pretty common. If it doesn't look like an anatomical malformation (something called posterior urethral valves) they will likely do an US when the baby is a week, if he/ she voids normally in nursery after delivery.
