So my results are positive and doc said this is normal most women get it during pregnancy...this is my 3rd and I was negative with 1st 2. Any1 else test positive? Doc said they give antibiotics at the time of labor! Should I be worried? Feels like my doc don't want me stressed.

  • Im strep B positive. Its a normal bacteria that can come and go. Nothing to be worried about. My doctor said 2 hours after contractions for 2 hours or as soon as your water breaks go in so they can get you on antibiotics. The longer your in them the better off but some is better then none. Don't stress yourself out!

  • Yes I have it too! I was shocked haha. Me and baby have to stay in the hospital 48 hours after delivery:/
  • So you have to stay in because of your positive result? @kinnieloo
  • Thank you @nikkilandowski ;) it's been a very long complicated and stressful pregnancy so I just want him healthy!
  • Yes @aliehoward they require it here , I was so bummed, but maybe it will be for the better :)
  • I tested positive also. I cried when I found out because all I could think about was that this sounds like the beginning of what will be the intervention slippery slope. My doc calmed me down in her office and assured me that it won't be. We will see. EDD 7/28.
  • I was strep positive and delivered a very healthy baby. It's really nbd. The meds are administered and that's about it! Just get to hospital as soon as membranes go!
  • I also tested positive. I've been reading up on the bacteria and risks because I expect a very quick delivery like I had with my first and therefore won't have time for the antibiotics if that happens.

I also discussed my concerns with my midwife and she told me about some current ongoing research regarding probiotics that looks to be promising concerning the GBS bacteria so she had me start taking Culterelle every day. She said at the very least, it won't hurt to try it. Plus, if I do get the antibiotics, there's always the increased chance of a yeast infection afterwards - so the probiotics also help reduce that risk.

I have also started taking the probiotics for the possible rebound yeast infection. With my first I noticed itching 1 week out and couldn't believe that my 1 stitch could be the cause. It wasn't.
  • Good point ladies. I will talk with my doc about the probiotics as well. Antibiotics give me yeast everytime and that's the last thing I need going on dwn there along with delivery discomforts and pains! Thanks ladies!

Even if it doesn't give you a vaginal infection it can increase your odds of thrush. Def ask about it.
