  • Yup. My doctor said it's okay. Make sure you read the directions because mine have a daily limit of 5 if you're pregnant.
  • Yes. They are my best friend.
  • Yep taking them all the time. Plus my doc recommended Zantac 75 once in the am and once in the pm.
  • I've got tums strategically placed everywhere! Just started to have to take zantac!

  • Yup! My doctor said they were fine. I have a stash at home & at work.
  • I've been taking Pepcid Complete since I had acid problems before the pregnancy. (The magnesium helps keep it away longer)

  • My midwife recommended trying papaya extract pills. She said a lot of her patients found relief from them.
  • My midwife prescribed Zantac for me this week! It's amazing! I would've needed to take more than the 6 tums a day to keep it under control.
  • I love my Tums. But I'm about to have to start taking my Nexium again. My throat is on fire tonight.
  • My heartburn is constant. I'm taking tums but only when I absolutely have to. I'm a weirdo about medication so I've been trying not to take anything for any reason.
  • Thanks so much everyone ... First time takin it ... My heartburn was constant . After taking the tums i felt much better
  • I don't take tums, they are too chalky. I know this sounds weird, but I take the generic CVS brand, max 1000, tropical fruit flavor. Only the yellow or white ones seem to work for me. They are less disgusting somehow, smoother. I know, weird. But if you don't like tums, give it a try. I realize it's a waste of the others but I just can't eat them!

  • oh god yes. i use tums on a daily basis. my doc also said i could do zantac 2xs per day. when the heartburn is really bad i do take zantac 1x per day. i have used about 20 zantac over the past 3 months, so not too bad. usually 4 tums per day (2 in the morning and 2 at night) keeps things under control. can't believe you've made it this long without them!!
  • The Pepcid worked so much better for me. Try to watch what you take though, because I ended up with kidney stones and my doctor thinks it may have had something to do with the antacids because of the calcium (I think).
  • YeS I swear by tums both last and this pregnancy

Mine got so bad the max dose of Zantac 150 wasn't cutting it. My OB prescribed me Prilosec and now I can eat normally and sleep lying down again.

You should try the papaya enzyme chews. I've been living off of them because I don't like to take medicine and they have really helped
  • It's weird, I had terrible, terrible heartburn with my girls. This time with boy, not so much. Maybe once a week. Strange.

  • I've mentioned this before but I swear by Healthy Mama brand "tame the flame" heartburn tablets! You can have up to 15 a day (although I never need that many). I got them at Target in the aisle with adult diapers, haha.
  • All night every night from week 27 onward. Tums are my best friend.

  • Doc just switched me to Pepcid. I take one a day. Oh it's glorious! Tums didn't work for me. But she told me to still take a couple at night for the extra calcium. :)

Tums are great but if it's really bad I eat peppermint! It's amazing. Cools everything down right away.
  • @AmyB421 thanks! I will definitely look into it. My mom is all about herbal and natural supplements instead of medication and she has suggested that as well. I just haven't gotten around to finding them!
  • Try chewable papaya extract. It's all natural and really does help!
  • I was doing just tums for awhile. My heartburn is getting worse though so I've started taking one Zantac a day. Doc prescribed me 2 a day but would rather not.
  • Whole foods sells an Aluminum free version of Tums called Axia3 and it works great. I will have to look in to papaya!
  • I use the chewable all natural papaya, recommended by my midwife. They have been a life saver! Sometimes at night it's worse than usual and I will also rub some peppermint essential oil on my throat/neck where it feels on fire and that really helps it too. :)
