Squat Bar

So there is a birthing position where you can use a squat bar. Anyone use this before? Any positive or negative experiences?

Last time I gave birth I was lying on my back and just didn't feel like I got a good position for pushing. So I am curious about this position because I feel like I would be able to get some good pushes.

  • I want to ask my hospital if they have this I'll love to give birth this way instead of laying down . I rather have gravity help
  • I guess no one has tried this yet... I'll try within this next week so I'll let everyone know how I liked or disliked it haha.

  • I intend to try it too, and potentially all fours. Supposed to be induced Wednesday if baby hasn't come yet.
  • So i haven't tried this either...dont even know if this is an option at the place im delivering but n my readings and classes they claim ur body will tell u what position to get into if ur listening...so i plan on changing positions a lot..holding a door handle can be used for squatting if the hospital doesn't have a bar
  • I had my son Wednesday and they had me use the squat bar and I have to admit that I hated it. I used it after I had already pushed for 4 hours with no progress so that may have been why I didn't like it.

I found it was very hard to get into the position they needed and then pull and sit up when I was already exhausted and my ribs were killing me the whole time.
  • I used the squat bar with my first and I really liked it for early in the pushing phase. He was rather large and there was hours of pushing. I ultimately delivered him while on my back in a sitting position. Definitely recommend the squat bar it felt like it dropped him down into my pelvis.
  • I used one and loved it. Unfortunately I had to stop because of episiotomy /vaccuum, but I have every intention of doing it again way better than being on your back
  • I gave birth to my first on all fours (not so glamorous with your bare butt in the air, but I didn't care at that point! lol) ...it was much more effective than laying down. I found that laying down was a difficult position to push in and if you're not doing an epidural you will probably want to be in another position.  The squat bar wasn't offered as an option for me the first time around, but I will definitely ask and see if it's available this time!
