Announcing Sex of Baby from Overseas??

So I'm in a bit of a dilemma! I moved to Australia, where my husband is from, when I was 7 weeks. We are so excited for our 19 week scan in a little less than 3 weeks to find out the sex of the baby. Herein lies the problem. I don't know how to tell all of my family and friends back in America if LO is a boy or girl. I don't want to mail anything because it takes too long. I can't keep a secret for more than a few hours lol.

Does anyone have any good ideas how to do this from so far away??? I'm so stuck....

    Maybe a video message?

we're going to be sending some kind of text/email online photo of us holding balloons. It's the fastest thing I can think of because I'm sure I won't be able to wait either :) We aren't doing the scan until 21.5 weeks and that's long enough wait for me.
  • If you don't want to do an online announcement some of the photo printing websites do have an option to have them mail your cards directly to your recipients so you could have them out within 7-10days versus weeks of international mail.

@CMDD Everytime I think about the anatomy scan...I really hope baby co-operates I may cry if after all the waiting the LO decided to hide!

@tomekiab oh if I wait until August 21st I am not leaving that place until we get an answer! Haha I'll hold onto the bed and make them keep trying.
At my nuchal they had me do leg lifts that lifted my pelvis up to get the baby to move :)
  • I'm lurking from the January 16 bmb, but am also an overseas mom to be. I have some friends that did a video chat gender reveal with their families back home where they had their toddler open a box with helium baloons (theirs were blue for a boy). That way they could share the moment with their families as close to in person as they could be. I think it was a good idea and might steal it (minus the toddler since this will be our first). The problem will just be coordinating timing. Another option would be to make a video message for them.

Thanks ladies. These are some great ideas!
  • I'm in the same situation as you except living in New Zealand! I was going to just do a photo and email it, but I Love the idea of a florist delivering the balloon in a box, or maybe even just some flowers with the little balloon on a stick in the middle.. FTM 17 weeks now! Can't wait to find out the gender, they've got me waiting until 20 weeks! Gaahh, can't handle it!
  • I'm an American in Australia too. For my first child, I called my parents straight after the scan with viber. They couldn't wait to find out. The same was with closest friends. I wasn't fussed with a big announcement and they were just excited to find out.

I often use snapfish to send photo birthdays cards and some have a mai for me option as one lady above mentioned.

How do you like Australia? What part of the country are you in?

Snapfish? Hm haven't heard of that. Will have to look into it. I'm in Sydney and liking it. It's hard to meet people though as I haven't found a job yet... And then there's the whole being pregnant thing. Doesn't make it easy. Where r u?
  • I'm in in Sydney too! Are you here permanently? I found it very hard to make friends here. Aussie are friendly but seem to be in a tight nit group. After the baby they set you up in a mother's group and that's a nice way to make a friend or two! Maybe we can meet up sometime?
