Healthy Mama check-in week of 7/5

How is everyone doing this week?

1. How much time postpartum?
2. What workouts have you been doing?
3. Accomplishments/ challenges?
4. GTKY: what motivates you to stay healthy?

Re: Healthy Mama check-in week of 7/5

  • 1. 6 weeks PP

    2. Walking and yoga

    3. I got cleared to exercise more at my 6 week visit. Returning to yoga post c-section has been a particular challenge for me. Definitely a lesson in humility. I even did yoga up until the weekend before I gave birth! My core just isn't there and asanas that were previously simple are challenging and at times uncomfortable. I knew it would take time to get back to where I was before, I just didn't imagine savasana would be uncomfortable! I thought I would be back to headstands and strong vinyasa flows by August but it will take more time than that. So I guess I'm just very frustrated right now.

    4. My son motivates me to stay healthy. I want to expose him to healthy habits so that he will build his ow healthy habits!

6 weeks PP. Starting workouts today. I do a variety of beachbody workouts. I'll also walk bc I enjoy strolling with the LO and he loves it too.

Challenges? Not being able to do what I used to is humbling but it'll come back.

Baby boy is my reason. Plus I miss my abs. And having clothes that fit.

    Eta so many typos!

    1. 4.5 weeks pp, c-section
    2. So far, walks in the neighborhood with lo and, today, the elliptical. Will start piyo at 6 weeks. Any insights if anyone has done it?
    3. No new challenges. Same as everyone: healthy lifestyle, clothes fitting, feeling good in my new skin and feeling confident for future practice time for lo 3 (If you know what I mean).

I've done Piyo! I also plan to incorporate it into my mission: get body back. Follow the suggested schedule otherwise you may pick out an advanced workout when you're not quite there yet. Good luck!!!

Still just walking for me but still carrying LO who is 8lbs now. Arms will be getting stronger but I need to do more squats and yoga.

My challenges are time and tiredness, motivation is that nutrition and exercise were out while lives pre little one. I also love biking but although I didn't tear I'm not ready to go there yet!!

I'm loving this thread! I have my 6 week post partum app on Wednesday and I'm hoping to get cleared to work out. I had a csection so I didn't know if I had to wait until 8 weeks. I worked out quite a bit beforehand but I had a hellish first trimester and lost my mojo. It's crazy, I am so slow getting up from simply sitting on the floor. Even worse than before I gave birth! It's like I have no leg muscle. Perhaps it's my core? Oh well, I look forward to contributing to the thread very soon :)

Advanced would be impossible. Thanks for the heads-up !

Did you like the workouts? Think they were effective?

I enjoyed the workouts and yes definitely effective. I personally like a little more cardio so that's while I'm doing a few programs mixed up.
  • 2 weeks PP

Just walking with LO for now. But DH bought me an elliptical for my birthday, so as soon as I'm cleared to I can use that while the baby naps. Looking forward to actually starting to run again, but that will probably wait until fall bc the Carolina summers are just way too hot when I'm not used to it.

Breastfeeding is for real a good weight loss tool...I'm down to only 6 lbs over pre-pregnancy weight already! Hopefully the last 6 won't be too stubborn once I'm working out again.
  • 4 weeks pp

Walking in the neighborhood is my only exercise as of right now, really looking to get back into it! I was put on pelvic rest starting at 8 weeks and was very active before that! Now just pushing the stroller up the hill on my street makes me short of breath! I've lost all but 5lbs of my pregnancy weight but I have no endurance! I did a lot of yoga, barre, Pilates type classes before and can't wait to be cleared to go back to those!

Even though I've lost most of my weight my belly is just pudgy/ squishy looking and makes rolls over my pants, I need new clothes!!!! I may take myself shopping one day this week!

    4 weeks PP
    2. What workouts have you been doing?
    I am on day 16 of P90X
    3. Accomplishments/ challenges?
I'm getting better at real push-ups!
    4. GTKY: what motivates you to stay healthy?
I don't want to wear maternity clothing any more! And I definitely don't want to be wearing maternity clothing when I head back to work at 12 weeks

Activity is great! I am really happy for. Those who only have a few pounds loose (I have 40 to get to pre- first pregancy weight, which was 19 months ago). I did prenatal videos almost everyday of this second pregnancy and my endurance is also so low!
  • It figures I was one of those lucky people that only gained belly during pregnancy.... Well now I am not losing any of the belly after :)
  • ^^^^^ same here
  • I did finally get yoga in tonight!! It felt so good and I had a couple of things get worked out. I think my cat was pumped I was back at it too. She's my yoga buddy
  • 4 weeks pp Not doing anything specific to lose weight except for running after my 3.5 year old and we moved 2 weeks ago so I've been rearranging/putting things away (besides taking care of my 4 weeks old I don't have time for anything else!) I'd say my accomplishment is that I only gained in my belly during pregnancy and I'm already down to my pre-preg weight The thing that's motivating me to stay healthy is my kids. I want to set a good example with them so they'll be healthy later in life and I want to take care of myself so I can be around to see them grow up ;;)
