I think it's too early. I had DD wait to turn head down until 38w6d. She came at 39w1d.

Also, even if it's successful baby can flip back over if done too early. If you haven't made it to term (40 weeks is the updated definition) then I would hold off.

  • I wouldn't do it. Try other stuff before u resort to that. Try the spinning babies technique or the chiropractor with the Webster technique. Mine flipped with the Webster at 38 weeks after one session and has stayed that way since.
  • Can you wait until you are closer to your due date? Everyone I know who has had one done was unsuccessful unfortunately- it has a risk of causing labor so if you could wait until your closer to your due date then it may be better. Other than having it done at 37 weeks I don't see an issue in trying it.

I'm assuming you've tried other non-invasive things like the spinning babies stuff and if it were me, I would absolutely try for a version to know I tried everything before having a c-section.

If it makes you feel any better my sil had one with her 3rd, baby was transverse and they got her to move but she would immediately flip back sideways. She actually is a L&D nurse so she really knew all the risk involved and still wanted to do it and even hand picked the Dr she knew had the most experience and best results doing them but it just wasn't in the cards. My sil ended up having a csection but said the recovery was not nearly as bad as she thought and that was even with having a 4&2 year old at home to chase after.

I guess I am in the minority here, but I was under the impression that doing a version closer to 40 weeks is less likely to be successful, as the baby would be likely to be further down in the pelvis and more "stuck". Your OB/ would probably be better equipped to give you advice though, as he/ she can actually examine you. Good luck! A lot of versions are successful, so think positively.

  • Thanks ya'll
  • I just had one last week, during week 38. Unfortunately it was unsuccessful, but I'm glad we tried! If you start to feel uncomfortable, just let your Dr. know! I honestly didn't think it was too bad - but again, we didn't get very far since the baby kept moving back to his original position :)

    Good luck!
  • Went in for a version only to realize he was already head down, whew! Lucky me! :-)
