2nd Trimester

(No search option for mobile) Freaking out about smoking for a week??

Hi, I'm a FTM, I'm 16 weeks, I've been going through a really stressful time and I used to smoke before I found out I was pregnant. I quit the second I found out, which was actually around 3 weeks preg, so I had a head start. I hadn't touched a cigarette up until last week, and I've been smoking about 2 cigarettes a day for about a week now. I feel Really guilty and have put the cigarettes away for good, and now I've been extremely anxious about the baby and its health and how it's doing. I don't have an appointment with my OB for another two weeks and I'm about the time where I should be feeling flutters, which I actually felt at 14 weeks....I'm really really scared for my baby and how it's doing. Please some reassurance or something, similar cases? Sorry if this has already been discussed, I'm in the mobile app which does not have search options.

Thanks moms!

  • Ok one calm down, two many people smoke through their entire pregnancy and have babies. Three you might not feel flutters until later and certainly not constant. Some don't even feel anything until around 20 weeks. And there is a search option on mobile at the bottom on the page .

I'm not going to tell you that this is ok or to keep it up. Cigarettes contain lethal poison.

BUT... you were smoking two a day - not five a day, not ten a day, not a pack a day. And it was a week, not your entire pregnancy.

Living in Beijing has pretty much been compared to having a half-pack a day habit and those women are having healthy babies all the time.

My mom got a CRAVING for cigarettes (the smell AND taste) in her third trimester. And smoked one a day for about a MONTH. I was born 3 weeks early but i was around 8 lbs and very, very healthy. And i was not born early due to smoking. Something happened and triggered my mother's water to break. I have had no side effects from it growing up.

Your baby is gonna be just fine :) Moms who smoke all day, every day, are the ones likely to experience complications. You had 14 cigarettes over the course of a week. Not a great choice but not a deal breaker by any stretch.
