Side panel maternity jeans....

Has anyone worn these for all 9 months and loved them? Does anyone have an opinion? Love or hate?

This is my 4th pregnancy and I've only ever worn full panel but this summer heat is killing me, and the full panel is making me extra hot. I tried on a pair of side panels today and the fit was amazing. But I'm afraid as I get bigger they won't be comfortable anymore.

Re: Side panel maternity jeans....

  • I have them and love them but I've been wondering the same thing. I guess they could lay under your bump.
  • Loading the player...
  • I bought some side panel shorts from old navy and just turned 20 weeks and they are already uncomfortable on my stomach :/ those are the only side panel items I own so may just be those specific shorts, but it definitely turned me off to the side panel idea

I think they're meant to be worn under the belly during the later months, but how well that works in practice is probably dependent on a few different factors, like the rise of the pant and where your weight gets distributed...  I have thought about giving them a shot, but I haven't gotten any myself.
  • Thank you ladies. Maybe I will look around and try to find some inexpensive ones so that if I hate them in a month I don't feel completely bad about it. The ones I tried on today were from a stitch fix box, my first box, and they are amazingly comfortable but ring in at $98. I just can't spend that much on maternity jeans. And I'm nervous about them not fitting under my belly too, I tend to gain weight in my hips and lower middle area.

Try old navy. I bought a few pairs online when they had 30% off.
  • I hate them! They are uncomfortable and my bump pushes them down. I have a few pairs and wish I could return them. Oh well, they'll be perfect for after baby.

That's what I keep thinking too. Last time I wore my full panel ones for a month or 2 after the baby because that's all that fit. This time I won't feel so frumpy, I hope.
  • I just fold the full panel down when I get too hot, I'm not a fan of under bump of side panel, uncomfortable and make my bump a strange shape.

After the baby is a good idea. Maybe I'll buy a cheap pair just for that. The bump pushing them down is what I was afraid of.

That is the beauty of full panel, they make everything smooth. When I try to fold down my full panels right now, they slide off my butt. Maybe I just need a better fitting pair.

Okay, I know this isn't really on the topic exactly, but I hope y'all don't mind me tacking this question on. I seem to be having no luck with getting maternity bottoms that fit. I am relatively thin and started this pregnancy out underweight, but I'm definitely at a point now where the bump is preventing me from being able to comfortably wear regular pants. But I can't seem to find anything that doesn't basically fall off of me. I bought a pair of maternity shorts from old navy in a size extra small figuring that should be good. They don't quite fall off, but I can't even put a cell phone in my pocket without them sliding down and me having to pull them up every two seconds. And to be honest if some recommendations could spare me hours of trying on maternity wear and getting frustrated, it would make my life a whole lot easier.

@kmd91 do you have a belly band? It's like a tube top that goes around your waist. I wear it over my maternity pants when I'm in that in between stage and it works really well to help keep them up.

Oh my gosh, that is brilliant. I didn't get one when it seemed like at of N15 was cause I could still make my wardrobe work, and then I'd completely forgotten about them. But looks like that would be a good investment for me now, thanks!

Totally second the belly band over your mat pants.
I have some extra weight and a small bump but can't wear regular pants and my maternity ones still fall down very easily. Sadly they did that through the end of my last pregnancy even with a huge bump.
Right now I Iike the low panel or wide stretch ones just because they don't slide down as much.
  • I can't speak to all 9 months but for me at 24 weeks the side panel shorts I have are still my favorite. I hate the feeling of all that fabric with the full panel pants especially in SC heat. My feelings may change later, maybe I have an unusual body shape?

On the flip side, personally I would not pay $90 for any pair of jeans, but I'm kind of stingy about some things.

Have you tried H&M? I find they are tailored more for the leaner limb, I have muscular legs and always have to size up with their bottoms. They are also a pretty good price.
  • I like the side panel ones, they haven't been uncomfortable for me yet so hopefully they stay that way. As far as the full panel goes, I normally just roll them down and they fit much better and aren't as hot that way.

  • I've found Motherhood Maternity's xs to fit much better than Old Navy's.  Old Navy tends to run large on me even in regular clothing.
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.

I have the same problem with Old Navy.

  • I also have the old navy side panel shorts and they are starting to feel uncomfortable at 21 weeks
  • The rest of my post didn't go through, but I wanted to also add that I am loving the belly band! I've been using it with all of my non-maternity jeans and work pants in leu of zipping! Works like a charm when you still can't quite fit into maternity pants!
  • FYI, there is a 20% off maternity apparel coupon on targets cartwheel app that you can use on the belly band!
