2 month old & schedules. HELP!

I have no idea how to get my little two month old on a schedule. She kinda was eating around the same times everyday and then she changed it totally up. And now it's usually random all the time. Do you moms have your little ones on schedules or just feed them whenever they let you know they're hungry? And she's still sleeping a lot so I don't know how to get her naps on a schedule either. I would really like to have her down for the night between 8:30 and 9:30. Any advice?

If it's any encouragement, hang in there. She's just two months old! So much is changing in her world and you're right in the middle of growth spurts, developmental leaps, and rapid change. If you haven't checked out the wonder weeks app, I would suggest it; you are most likely smack dab in the middle of the second leap. Our little guy is 3 months old and it's still very different from one week to another and he may settle into a schedule for a bit and then it changes. He might sleep 6-8.5 hours a night for a week, then turn around and suddenly only sleep 3-4 hour stretches at night, depending on what's going on in his world. You may have more luck living in a routine: eat play sleep, but expecting it to shift from day to day and know that you may see similarities but, as much as you might be dying for that perfect schedule (believe me, the OCD side of me flips out when the rhythm we had shifts again), but you'll probably need to roll with the punches for a while longer and try not to go crazy. :P

  • Sounds like you have a good baby. At 2 months you should still be on his schedule. Every 2 hours for eating and daytime naps, unless he wants more. But it's all about practice.
  • You can begin by waking at the same time every day and doing that first feeding. Then start to figure out how long LO needs to stay awake and how frequently to eat. My 11 week old wakes around 6:30am and eats every 3ish hours and stays awake for 90 min - 2 hours including feedings. He is on a pretty consistent schedule if we start the day at the same time.

  • My baby is also 2mo (almost 3). He eats about every 2.75-3 hours. However, the times he eats and naps vary each day. We feed on demand and take his cues. We also have a night time routine established for each night (he's been sleeping through the night since 5 weeks, he's 12 weeks now). We Start our night routine (bath, bottle, swaddle, etc) around the same time every night (between 8:30/9). If his time to eat falls at say 7:30, but I know he'll be eating again at 9, I'll give him less milk but enough to hold him over until that last feeding. He eats 4oz every 3 hours so at 7:30 I may only give him 2.5-3oz, then another 4oz bottle after his bath for his last feeding. That way even though he eats at different times each day (one day will be 11,2,5,8:30 and another day will be 12:30,3:30,6:30,9) I can still have the night time consistency. His naps are always different times as well. They're still young and I suggest going by their cues and their schedule. From my personal experience it still doesn't affect my baby falling asleep at night and sleeping through the night. Hope that helps!
