Any weird cravings anyone??

I haven't been keeping up with all the discussion topics so I'm not sure if this topic has already been covered but anybody having some really odd cravings? I would like to hear about them!!

Throughout my life laundry & dish soap have always made my mouth water. However, now that I am pregnant the feeling I get from the scents are worse than ever! And my mouth now waters with pretty much all cleaning product smells (other than bleach). I havent & probably won't have a taste of laundry or dish soaps (because I just can't stand the thought of my baby eating soap) but the urge kills me everyday!! My doctor says I have PICA but he isn't concerned because I am not anemic and all my tests results have come back fine.

Re: Any weird cravings anyone??

  • I personally haven't ever craved anything that wasn't food but when my mom was pregnant with me she said she craved dirt. She said she really just wanted to go outside and scoop up a big spoonful.

  • Is this real? Please don't drink soap or bleach...............
  • I can relate. I actually craved kitchen sponges for a few weeks. Crazy, I know! The texture just sounded really inviting for a while there.
Luckily, Iron supplements have diminished the craving. I was starting to feel like a crazy person.
  • @kedbach if you re read what I wrote I said "other than bleach" and "I just can't stand the thought of my baby eating soap" therefore I have no intentions of eating/drinking either its just a weird craving I am experiencing.
  • @lisajean07 Really iron? I will ask my doctor if that is a good option for me. This is driving me crazy!! I usually just chew gum when it gets bad, for some reason it seems to help.

Definitely tell your doctor! I was craving dirt and ice and its because I was anemic. Soap is a common anemia craving as well. They can test you for it and start you on a supplement. I felt much better after I got put on one.
  • Yep my iron levels were low which is why I was experiencing the pica cravings. Yep and as carleyec93 said, definitely tell your doctor!
  • My iron levels have been normal, but I get a strange craving for rocks, chalk, ice, and fresh DRY laundry. Like I could chew on a fresh towel if I let myself! I love the musty smell from the air conditioner and some people's basements! The only thing I've actually eaten is the ice.. A lot actually... But then, it is really hot here in Fl too.
  • I had NO idea this was actually a thing!!! I literally mop my floors like twice a day because I love the smell of pinesol and I have medical grade disenfectimg wipes that I use that are so strong and so clean smelling.... I also love being in the garage when my husband is working on his racecar. All the different smells also make my mouth water. I thought the urge for the clean smell was just my nesting
  • @Ambermom043 I also like the smell of air conditioners and basements if they have a fresh scent to them. Nice to know I am not the only one!!
  • I've always loved the smell of dirt, air conditioners, and basements since I was a kid. And I totally feel you on the whole chewing on a clean towel thing! But then, I've always been a chewer! As a kid I used to carry around a wet wash cloth to chew on! Weird I know. These days, though, I'm all about ice!
  • This is not really a strange craving but I'm eating at least 1 if not 2 watermelons a week. It seems to have helped the swelling in my legs and feet, some days they look close to normal.
  • I want to pour hot sauce down my throat. I usually hate spicy food.

I haven't smoked in years, but when I smell s cigarette, I want one so bad. So bad that I might have one after my daughter is born just to get rid of the craving.
  • This is not really a craving but I love the smell of stale office building stairwells! It's so weird!! The one at my Dr office has that smell and I will just walk in and take a deep breath.
  • Yup! I crave the smell of PineSol so much!! The smell of my sisters old AC when she just turns it on which is probably mold or antifreeze (very bad), wet soil, the smell of a specific organic soap that I get from the farmers market, and clay. I have anemia and they gave me iron but I still crave the smell of these things that my mouth waters. I wouldn't eat any of these things to make the craving go away I eat/chew ice. For some reason Ice now has "a taste" that I love eek.
  • Gasoline, goof off, nail polish remover, rubbing alcohol, and bleach. Lol I want to drink them so bad!
  • Ice and the smell of nail polish. I am anemic
  • The only one I have is ice. Shaved ice, crushed ice, popcicles, cubes of ice, slushes. Husband bought me a kid's snocone maker last week. I am currently eating a cup full of shaved ice.
  • That gross musty smell of towels if they sit on the floor overnight!! My mouth waters so bad I can't stop smelling it! I used to hate that smell and freak out if the kids left towels on the floor! The smell of our shop and fire department and new gear also make me drool!
