Breached Baby Bystanders

Hey guys! I hope you all are having an awesome or at least decent day.

Fun little observation/question. So currently I'm 22w 4d and baby is still breach. Her kicks have been low towards my cervix and fairly consistent. Yesterday I was pretty excited because I thought for sure she was flipping as the kicks seemed to be adjacent to my belly button on the right, but then it went back to low about a hour later. Last night, she did the same thing for awhile but low and behold back to low kicks; I think she's mocking me :-P

Honestly I'm not too concerned as I know I have plenty of time and frankly this kid is going to do what she's going to do whether I stand on my head or not, BUT I was wondering others experience on this whether with a previous baby or what you might have noticed during this pregnancy. Was the flip obvious to you? Have others been given the fake out by their babies?

TIA!

Re: Breached Baby Bystanders

  • They can flip about right til the later weeks! My DS flipped about for the entire pregnancy. At 36 weeks I watched him go breech and finally get himself well and truly stuck. It looked as if he was going to climb out of my mouth and it hurt quite a bit! I ended up with a section as he was well and truly stuck and couldn't be moved with an ECV.

But this early on, she may flip without you realising. And don't forget you might not be feeling kicks- could be punches sometimes! So baby may really be psyching you out ;-) Don't worry about it for a long time, your doctor won't start being concerned til the later days. I'm in the UK so not entirely sure what the rules are where you are- but they're not really concerned with babies position here til 36ish weeks

My LO is also fully breeched. The Dr. said no worries. There is more than enough time for him to turn.
  • I wouldn't wort about it this early. I also was going to mention she might be punching you to!

My nephew flipped about 2 days before he delivered!
  • Yep mine was too as of my 20 wk anatomy scan. I figure she will probably do many somersaults between now and delivery so who knows how she'll end up.
  • Im 22 weeks and my LO spends most of her time breach at this point. But like you, I sometimes feel her go transverse or feel movement closer to my belly button. My doctor is not concerned and I feel like if I'm feeling her in other positions, even if she tends to settle back in breach, I know that she still has room to move around in there. We still have a few months before it's any cause for concern.
  • DD flipped on her own at 36 weeks last time and I didn't have a clue :)
I will say though they continually checked me after she flipped to make sure she hadn't flipped back- right up to when I gave birth.

  • It's way too early to worry about the baby's position.

I did feel mine flip last time when she did. I was past 30 weeks but don't remember exactly when.

Mine is breech too right now but they seem to like rolling around a bit too. Since my previous 2 eventually went head down my fingers are crossed that this one will too.
  • Mine has been all over the place. Sometimes I'm pretty sure she is laying sideways along my stomach, because I'll feel punches on one end, and kicks on the other simultaneously. Then other times I'll just feel little jabs really low by my right hip. It's fun to feel her roll & switch positions, though!

  • Thanks for all these awesome answers guys! As I said, it IS very early on so I have no concerns but to me it's so fascinating thinking on what's going on in there, particularly since she's been so active. I guess the thought of LO just doing flips like she's on a gyroscope and I'm the venue is so CRAZY.
  • Hey! A couple things I've learned about is sitting position/stretches. Try sitting cross legged when you're sitting watching tv, laundry or anything really. Plus side if your S/O is home, sit in front of him and get a massage ;) The other is doing cat/cow before bed, especially as you get further along, it will relieve some pressure and might help flip baby around too. Good luck and don't stress too much, we've got some time!
