Rock n play to sleep

Anyone still using the rock n play to sleep?

My little guy had some rough nights...enough to make me schedule a visit with his doc to discuss possible reflux.

Last night he started the whole nurse to drowsy, lay down, cry routine and I had to try something else. I brought the rock n play in and he slept through the night! At our best, he was doing 2 hours before, and out our worst these past several nights we were doing 20 to 45 minutes! So I feel human! Which is awesome.

We'll see what the doc says tomorrow, just wanted to see if anyone is in the same boat.

Re: Rock n play to sleep

  • I am doing the same thing. My little one has been cranky and I but him in his rock and play and he loves it. I have him in it during the night because it's easier for me because I have to wake him up every 4 hours because I have to get him weight back up there. I also have him take naps in it too. I am little by little putting him in his crib. But keep what you are doing. I have learned that. I wish I didn't have to wake him up because he was sleeping 6-7 hours at night....

  • I feel bad, in my sleep deprived haze, I wasn't really thinking reflux. I thought he had his days and nights mixed up, then it dawned on me he was sleeping perfectly if in his rock n play or a swing at my moms, but in his bassinet or anywhere flat he would cry. So I finally put things together and he slept so well that I kept waking to check all the time.

He's a chunk, 12 pounds at his 4 week appointment, which I learned could be a sign of reflux.

So we have an appointment tomorrow and will look into reflux, but here all along I could have had an awesome little sleeper but was making him and I both miserable!

Omg that sounds like my lil guy. He cried every time in pack n play, bed, flat surfaces but likes to sleep in a hammock. We did US and he has reflux, doctor prescribed Zantac. He just started so not sure if it is working. My boy is also 12 lbs but he is 6 weeks, dr said he still wakes up at night to feed every 3 hours might be because he's just eat to soothe his pain of reflux. Please leep me posted on you LO.
  • I finally have realized my boy can actually sleep during the day in the rock n play! He is usually held or sleeps on me and every time I was alone I'd put him in the bassinet and he'd wake up 20-45 min later. But he sleeps awesome at night (5-6 hours). What's the weight limit for the rock n play?

I can't wait until my rock and play get here, just ordered on Saturday so it's probably on it way. My lil one also has flat head on one side of his head which is also my concern since anything they lay on gives them flat head if laying too long. Is the rock and play going to be good for flat head too? Or us it just like everything else he lay on?

    will do!

  • My baby girl has been sleeping in her rock and play since day one ... She sleeps so well! We found that swaddling her in a miracle blanket and putting her in the rock n play (rocking all night as we have the one that rocks on its own) has her sleeping through the night (almost 6 hrs) and she is only 6 weeks today
  • We've been having lo sleep in the swing but recently he's been able to take long naps in the crib!! Our little guy hated the pack n play because of the foam texture, he'd wake himself up. He's almost 6 weeks, hoping by 9 weeks he will be in his crib all night.
  • Rock n play weight limit is around 16 pounds

My LO also has a flat sided head and was diagnosed with torticollis (for which we start PT tomorrow). My pediatrician said that the rock n play actually makes it worse because the angle they lay at forces them to tilt their head forward and to a side. @duynguyen51

Rock n play weight limit is around 16 pounds

FWIW - Ours is 25 pounds, so it may vary model to model?

DS sleeps in his at night, and when I asked our pediatrician about it, she said all three of her kids slept in it until three or four months and that it was fine.
  • My son has been sleeping in it every night since we brought him home. I bought it to keep beside my bed and all that for a couple months. I'll lay him on a playmat or crib for a while during the day. He's not too keen on it after a while so I'm hoping he's just bored and it's not reflux. Also my rocker has a built in rocker machine....it's definitely worth the money.

Okay so we went to the doc, she said rock n play was fine but also suggested and wrote a rx for a "sling and slope" and/or a wedge pillow for when he's too big and needs to be in the crib.

As for the reflux, she does believe he has some reflux. Not severe, but the signs are there. She prescribed zantac. I'm seeing my "alternative guru" as I call her. She's an acupuncturist and eastern medicine chick. I want to see what she suggests. I just want to see what she thinks before we start medicine every day. I dunno, I didn't feel like the pediatrician talked to us much and it all felt rushed. I know reflux is common but I'm covering all bases. We didn't get to see the doc I love and some new chick walked in.

As for the excessive weight gain, which can be a symptom, he's now 15 lbs 5 oz at just over 8 weeks. I knew he was a chunk but wow. I think that's the only thing the doc really raised an eyebrow to.
  • My LO has slept in the rock n play since the beginning and sleeps great. I'm already thinking about trying to switch to the crib, but nervous because she does so well so far. I think mine has reflux too. So far, Drs think a milk protein allergy, but I've read that it's really rare to have an actual allergy. I'm curious about the Zantac.
  • Just another docs opinion to share- mine said LO probably has some reflux but she wouldn't prescribe medicine (Zantac) yet bc he's too young. She offered us some literature research that suggests medication this young can cause problems. She also said not to use the rock n play to sleep and suggested a wedge in the crib instead. Her reasoning was that the Rock n play is in constant motion and can become a sleep aid. Plus more importantly, she talked about sids potential when being in something so snugly and discussed how the excess fabric (ie animals head and ears in rock b play) can be dangerous.
