Would you induce?

I probably will regret asking, please share your opinion but I don't feel like being attacked. I have been uncomfortable (as has everyone) for weeks- pitting edema, unable to sleep, contractions 6 mins apart for days, etc. I finally hit my due date and Dr instantly offered to induce (I'm already 4 cm and 80% effaced). I couldn't pass up the offer to meet my baby so i agreed but now im a little nervous. Would you go for it or try to wait for labor to pick up on it's own?

I mean you're already in pre-labor with the contractions and dilated a lot more than plenty of women who get induced and have to start from 1 cm. I had an induction with my first, wasn't dilated and wasn't even having contractions - after a day laboring and five hours of trying to push I had a c/s. I highly doubt you would need that unless something went wrong; I say meet your baby!!

Go for it! Some people have strong opinions about leaving baby till there ready, some babies are ready and just can't get out on there own. Your 4cm... Baby is ready in my opinion! I was 41.3 and cervix barely changed with my first... Good luck! And congrats

I would say since you are already progressing inducement isn't a bad idea. If I was starting from 0 I would probably wait, but that isn't the case here.

If I were already 4cm I would!! I was only 1cm when induced with my first and it went terrible. But several close friends have been induced when they're already 3 to 4cm and have had great births! Meet your baby mama!

If your first instinct was to induce, then don't second guess it! Best of luck to you!!!

I am the most granola-crunching person you'll meet: schooled in VT, a National Park Ranger for years, receiving care at a birthing center for my pregnancy & wishing I didn't have to go to a hospital at all. I personally don't want to induce, but I certainly understand the reasons for it. I read yesterday about a woman (true story) who was pregnant for over a year. (!!!) Sometimes, it's the only way to get the baby out. You & baby will be healthy.

I say go for it too! I was 5cm and 100% when we induced with my first and it was a quick labor, especially for a first time mom. I had a great experience and would do it again. Good luck!

I had a bloody show yesterday morning (a period blood amount was on my pad when I woke up) no mucous plug , went in to the doctor and she said I had 24-48 hours tops before I would naturally go into labor. So scheduled induction for the following morning (this morning) since it would just push things along. She isn't the type to push induction so I felt comfortable with it! Been having contractions every 6 min since yesterday evening and this morning so the induction will (I'm hoping) just act as a nudge. Do what you are comfortable with! I trust my doctor so I am comfortable.

I would not, but my goal is for a low intervention delivery, and inducing can increase the risk of other interventions. If you are going to induce, at least you are past your due date.

I personally would not. I like low intervention and I've been induced before and with my experience I wouldn't do it again unless needed.

Do what you feel is best. Maybe baby just needs a little push. I was induced with my first and was hopping to skip it this time but he has one week now. And if my dr asked if I wanna be induced today I would do it. I'm in so much pain, no sleep, can't walk etc. And I have a toddler I need to take care of it's been rough. Just follow your heart and good luck! Keep us updated.

If you want to, go for it. You're an ideal candidate- youve hit 40 weeks, 4cm/80% is favorable, and already having some contractions. It shouldn't take much. In fact it might be considered more of an "augmentation" than induction (semantics). This coming from a labor nurse who HATES seeing elective 39 week inductions with unfavorable cervixes. Hell, I'll let my doc induce me if I end up at 40 weeks with that kind of cervix.

having 2 children, one induced and one not, I wouldn't induce, I would wait, Its such a hard choice. Induction can be hard on the baby and with my first her heart rate dropped and they had to do an episiotomy and use the vacuum. the second baby was natural and a much better experience. where you are already in progress of labour waiting seems to me to make more sense to wait than induction, your body is preparing you and getting ready, whereas if you were at a 0 with no signs and induction was inevitable anyways, but I am not a doctor, I just had a bad induction with my first and never want to be induced again!
