Belly size too big? 42 inches at 12 weeks

Have any of you measured your bellies at their widest point? I feel huge for 12 weeks, so I measured and I am 42 inches! I was 32 inches pre pregnancy. I feel like I should not be this big already. I am not having twins, there's definitely only one baby in there. Anyone else taken any measurements?

  • Has your OB/midwife started measuring your fundal height yet? It's the measurement, in centimeters, from the pubic bone to the top of the uterus. The number is supposed to correspond to the number of weeks you are. I've not heard of measuring belly circumference. Though, if I measured mine I know it would be huge! Three different people over the weekend told me I'm "really pregnant" already or "showing a lot". Thanks for the complex people lol.

  • Haha @runnermeg I hear you! I went to breakfast with my husband, sister in law and her husband this morning and after we ate we were saying our goodbyes and out of nowhere my SIL's husband goes, "wow you really ARE pregnant!" And proceeded to pat my stomach. Yeah there's a baby the size of a hand fruit in there but I also just ate a ton of food so relax, guy.
  • Seriously, what is with the stomach pats and belly rubs already?! #1, totally invading my bubble! #2 WTF! I don't grab your love handles and say "you're growing nicely" - though maybe I should start!

But more on topic, and to agree with @RunnerMeg, it is the measurement from navel to pubic bone

  • I feel like when I wake up I don't look that pregnant but by bed time I look like I'm 6 months and I'm only 12 weeks! God bless elastic waist pants!!!
  • I'm twelve weeks and my waist has gone up by one and half inches.
  • Same as PP, at 12 weeks im up 1.5 inches.
  • No, the doctor hasn't started measuring fundal height yet, but I'm so glad to hear I'm not alone with the big belly! I look as pregnant as some people do at 6 months. I hope this doesn't mean I'm going to get ginormous before this is over!

  • Make sure you are drinking enough water. Maybe you are very bloated and retaining a lot of water.
  • So with my first I was the same way and grew quickly! We had hoped to wait to tell people at 12 weeks and had to tell at 10 because I couldn't hide it! By 5 months I was as large as I grew - during that time I was freaking out and cried a lot (by delivery I had gained 60+ lbs). The weight gain was very rough on me the whole pregnancy but I will say I lost it all!! I am now on baby #2 and at 14 weeks I haven't gained a pound! It's all crazy;) my advice is to ignore the rude belly rubbing weight gaining questioning people because sadly they will only get worse as you go;( your dr will be on you enough about your weight you will not need it from anyone else!
