Night time feeding

My LO is 6 weeks and is formula fed (roughly 4 oz per feeding).

What I'm wondering is when your LO wakes up in the middle of the night (midnight to 4am) does anyone just change them and put them back to bed without a feeding? As I wonder if my DS is just crying because he's wet.

I wonder this as my LO will sometimes eat at 7pm, fall asleep at 9pm and not wake up til 1am - that's 6 hrs without food! Not on a good schedule yet but this has happened a few times.

Re: Night time feeding

  • I basically do...LO wakes up. I start to nurse him and he falls asleep before he gets very much so I just put him back down. He's always fine in the morning. Not overly hungry.

My LO does the same. Eats between 7-830 and will sleep until 1-2am but I've always fed him changed him and put him back down. I have noticed every now and then he will only eat like 2 ounces and fall asleep. So I put him down and he sleeps for a few more hours. Then other nights he will eat the whole 5 ounces and go back to bed. That's a good question.
  • My LO started sleeping in 6 1/2-7 hr stretches (he's 5 weeks). Two nights ago he slept from 11-6:30 without waking for a feeding or diaper. so last night his last bottle was at 10:45 and when he woke up at 3:45 I gave him his pacifier and rocked him back to sleep. At 5:45 am he woke up again, and I gave him his bottle and he went back to sleep until 8:30. My philosophy is if they make it through the night without a feeding try to soothe them without food the following nights to get them on a sleep schedule! :)
