On Thursday morning at 9:30 I went to my regularly scheduled weekly check up. When I arrived, the nurse took my blood pressure which came out to around 160/89. Being that I usually range in the 120/60 range, my doctor became immediately concerned. After I was taken into the exam room, my OB did another check, and I ended up being 166/99. Needless to say, my doctor freaked out and order that I go to L&D and get bloodwork done, afraid that I had become pre-e. Well after 3 hours of NST and another increase in my BP, the on-call doctor decided to admit me. At 4 in the afternoon, Pitocin was started and our wait began. Although I was only 1cm dilated, the doctor was convinced I'd have my baby girl in my arms by very early the next morning. Well that was not in my baby girl's plan! I stayed on the Pitocin drip until 6 the next evening. After another check with no further dilation, the call was made to break my water! It took nearly two hours for any real contractions to start but once they had, they came on strong and fast. I went from 1cm to 4cmin just 20 minutes and then my SO went to let the family know in the waiting room that things were happening. In just that time, I dilated from 4 to 10 and was ready to push! I had received an epidural only minutes before he had gone to the waiting room and it only worked on my right side! Well, despite the pain I had to get this little girl out. I only had to push ten times and then my beautiful little girl made her appearance at 7:57 Friday evening! The doctor was really impressed that with me being a FTM, it had only taken 15 minutes! She arrived so quickly that her lungs didn't even have a chance to evacuate all of the amniotic fluid. I have a one degree tear and despite the epidural only half working, I would say I got off pretty easy! Baby Iris is the most precious little girl and picked up breastfeeding from the time they laid her on my chest and continues to eat like a champ. I know how lucky I am! Anyways, there is my labor story!! I wish all of you ladies luck and I will soon have pictures posted!!
