Summer Cold at 38 weeks :(

I am 38 weeks and 4 days and I am completely miserable. On top of all the pregnancy aches and pains I now have a cold. Runny nose, watery eyes, and terrible cough and a lot of mucus. It was okayed by my doctor to take Sudafed but I am on day 3 and have had no relief!! Any suggestions on what to do or take?!

  • Sudafed has never helped me! Can you take mucinex? I've had much better luck with that in helping with congestion. My family also uses essential oils to help us through illnesses. Most importantly, stay hydrated & get plenty of rest! Hope you feel better soon!!

  • I have had a cold for the last few days. Besides rest and plenty of fluids there isn't much you can do. I just keep thinking that it would be crappy if I went into labor with a cold
  • I hope you get over the cold before labor. The Neti pot helped me some with nasal congestion. Saline nasal spray is also approved. Also maybe try to sleep elevated a little with a humidifier? Other than that there just isn't much that can be done sadly. A lot of my go to cold meds were off limits when I had a cold a couple of months ago. I know it's pretty miserable.
  • On the bright side, I had a cold when I was 39 weeks and my midwife said you will not go into labor while sick because your body knows it cannot handle 2 big stresses at once
  • I am in the same boat!! I'm 39+1 and hVe had this awful cold for 13 days! It's so frustrating. I took sudafed in the beginning but my bp shot up to 150/108. So I have stopped taking anything. Just cough drops and tons of water. It really sucks.
  • I have had a sinus infection for the last 3 months (they gave me antibiotics but they never worked) so my doctor ok'd me to take tylonol cold, as well as she ok'd me to take Claritin allergy medication(because I also get allergies that have made this much worse) I try not to take much of anything but when it gets really bad I find the tylonol helps, as well I have a saline spray( it's actually one meant for babies, it's a nice light mist) it really helps, and have a humidifier going in the bedroom at night time. Hopefully your cold clears up before baby comes! I know for me a sinus infection is gunna suck while being in labour. Oh the joys! Lol
