17 weeks today and bleeding

after an uneventful pregnancy so far, I woke up this morning to some bleeding..not pink but not bright red either. I called my doctor who was not overly concerned since it was only when I wiped and I am not cramping. I was told no sex, heavy lifting, chasing kids, etc and just to take it easy today. I have my Doppler with me and did fine baby's heartbeat and am still feeling some movement.

I bled with my son from day 1 it seems, but this pregnancy has been clear until now. Anyone experience anything like this? It's just a little unnerving especially after a couple of losses.

I can imagine it being nerve wracking. But typically they won't tell you to come in unless it's a lot of blood or painful. That said, follow your gut.
Things are changing in there and it could be a number of things. Hope that is stopped by now.

I have not experienced this, but generally if you are spotting and not bleeding, you should be okay. If your doctor isn't too worried I would just try and relax and take it easy. If it becomes heavier I would call again, but hopefully you and LO are just fine! Its also important to remember that Brown blood is old blood if you experience some of that in the near future.
  • Thank you. It does seem to have stopped. A few wipes and it was gone. It doesn't help that I'm on vacation a few hours from home. If I were home she would have wanted me to come in to triage, but since there is only an ER here she said it may be better to hold off unless it gets worse. So far so good, knock on wood.

  • I had consistent spotting until about week 9, and since then have had about 3 more episodes that last at most a day. Everything has been fine for me so far, so I chalk it up to everything moving around inside and causing some irritation. I always find rest and lots of water help me move past it.

I lov having the Doppler - I use it anytime I'm worried to help keep me sane.

Like others said, it's likely fine unless it's soaking a pad or you have pain. Still - always scary!!

When I was pregnant with DS I bled almost the whole time. It was just the norm for that pregnancy. That's why it was so surprising to see it this morning when I was in the clear for so long. I honestly may have just overdone it. We have been going for long walks every morning and I haven't sat still for days. I've been resting today though!

It's crazy how complicated pregnancy can be haha. It's hard for me to tell others to "relax" because I know how I feel every time I experience it. I have my momentary freak out, then start talking myself off the ledge.

Maybe it's your body's way of telling you to relax and enjoy some down time. I always use it as an excuse to be lazy and watch tv. Regardless, I hope it goes away and doesn't return for you!!
  • Thanks for understanding. I'm a self proclaimed neurotic worrier.

  • Me too!! I drive my husband nuts...he thinks I self diagnose too. I blame it on hormones but really - it's just me.

Any sort of discharge can me nerve wrecking but follow doctor's orders and just relax, it's hard, I KNOW! I experienced spotting on and off until week 13, everytime I had an US and they couldn't find a reason for it, a number of things can cause it and sometimes they don't even know. Baby boy is swimming in there and haven't had any more spotting since. Enjoy some downtime and stay hydrated. Good luck with everything!

  • I'm 17w1d today, and I had brown spotting at 14 weeks and at 15 weeks, both times just little bit mixed with discharge when I wiped. I realized that it was probably because I overworked myself. I helped set up birthday parties both weekends. My latest appt was at 16 weeks and everything was just wonderful. I'm making sure to take it easy and drink plenty of fluids.
  • Oh I have definitely relaxed. We are on vacation at the beach so I laid by the pool most of the day and drank plenty of water. No sign of bleeding, just some tinted CM now. I had my mini meltdown finally and DH says he "knows" everything will be fine, so I'm just trying to keep it together.

  • Glad to hear you are relaxing!

Bleeding during pregnancy can occur due to numerous different things - most of which don't affect your baby at all!

I had a HUGE bleed at 15w4d, spotting for a week after, then nothing, then brown spotting for another week. Baby is totally fine!

Just keep relaxing, don't do anything strenuous and drink plenty of water. The only time to be concerned is if it's a lot of blood and it's red.

    GL to you!

  • Glad everything sounds better. Fx everything will continue perfectly!
  • Please get swabbed for a Uti! I spotted and it was BV that was acting up! It too went away before antibiotics.
