GD and induction

Hi ladies! Hope this final stretch is treating everyone good! I need some advice... I have diet controlled GD maybe four high numbers a week and I have been told by two labor class teachers and two of my drs that it's pretty standard to induce at 39 weeks. At my last appt I had a different dr and she told me it's not totally necessary and she may let me go to fourty weeks because my body may be more ready. With the risks of placenta deteriorating and stillbirth in that last week I really don't want to risk it... I've come so far and it took us two years and two surgeries to even get pregnant. She said if I insisted though she would induce at 39... Which I'm leaning toward bc my other dr told me no matter what don't let them let you go a day past 39 weeks. I trust all of my drs but them having different opinions confuses me... My baby is in the 85th percentile as well... What should I do?

Re: GD and induction

  • Not that I'm telling you what to do, but I would just induce. I'm 36 weeks with GD also, and my only high numbers that can't be controlled by diet are fasting blood sugars. My midwives said they will induce me at 39 weeks too. At first I was like hmm should I fight this? But they know what they're doing more than I do, and I know they have my best interest in mind. Besides, I don't know about you but I will be doing everything I can to naturally induce starting at 37 weeks, lol!

  • I do not have GD, but 39 weeks is full term, and I would hate to risk it if I were in your shoes. It seems to be a general consensus that induction at 39 is standard. The other doc said you "might" not need it and could be ok going to 40. That would be too many uncertainties for me just to wait another week.

Either way I wish you the best of luck. And hope it all turns out for the best no matter what you choose!

I'm 39+2 with GD and will be induced on my due date. The perinatologist and OB have been great, monitoring baby's growth, fluid, etc and since the placenta is not deteriorating and baby is a good size, see no reason to induce early. Guess it depends on the situation, but as I'm still feeling lots of movement from the baby and everything is checking out ok, I'm going to let her cook this last week.

    Good luck to you!!
  • Thank you for the advice!
  • I am 37+5 with GD and my OB is monitoring closely as well. At my US last week, little girl was 7lbs 4oz (74th percentile). She said she did not want me to go past 40 as it increases the chance of complications. She scheduled my induction for 39 weeks 2 days. My DD cam at 37+6 so I'm hoping my little one comes early on her own. Based on what my doc said, I wouldn't be comfortable going past 40.
  • Induction is set for Wednesday!! Starting cervadil at 3 pm and pitocin the next morning! My little muffin is measuring a whopping 8lbs 11oz so my dr said no longer than 39 weeks!! I'm so excited and so nervous I'm only dilated 1 cm and 50% effaced! Praying this goes smoothly!
