I'm on baby #4 and found at my DS's 4 month appointment that many pediatricians have reversed their opinion on sunscreen for under 6 months. I was told to use it - they 'prefer sunscreen to tan babies'.
We traveled a few weeks ago with DD. She had just turned 4 months. It wasn't international travel, but I did strategically try to schedule the flights when she would potentially sleep. It wasn't bad at all. I just made sure she sucked on her bink or a bottle so her ears would pop.
Went to Berlin for the day (flew out morning, back evening - we're UK based) with my 4 month old daughter on Tuesday. She was surprisingly good on the plane - just made sure to feed during take off and landing and she didn't seem fazed at all. I'm also with PP on sun cream - I'd far rather take care of her skin if necessary!
We have travelled with both kids at young ages, my first has been to 6 countries and she just turned two. Planes are fantastic baby shushers, you likely will get to bypass security & customs lines, and I'm sure you could use the sunshine. Bring your own supplies- we loved having a baby tent on beach vacations so we could enjoy the weather without too much concern about UV protection and my doc says you can use sunscreen when the benefit is greater than the risk. I'm not sure I believe the hype about feeding while ascending/descending, my girls haven't had problems with it and it's definitely not worth waking a sleeping baby to do it. Don't stress about it, go enjoy-- traveling with kids is a different experience but it will be worth it the minute you step into that Aruba sunshine.
