Keeping things clean

slightly OT but I'm wondering when you working mommies make time to clean house? Do you do a little every day or a big clean one day a week? We have a housekeeper right now but I'm thinking about cutting that expense when #2 arrives. We have two big dogs and hardwoods throughout so it's mostly about dust and keeping up the floors. And cleaning the bathrooms...yuck.

  • Every day. Marathon Saturday/Sunday cleaning sessions kill me.

Clean as we go, something every day. Lots of great schedules out there. FlyLady is a favorite for many. CleanMama is one I follow on IG.

  • I do big cleaning on Saturday.
I work 12 hours Monday-Friday so that's really the only time I have energy and time to do it.
It's not too bad right now since it's just the two of us, but when baby comes I'll probably do a little every day!
  • I do big cleanings on the weekends, bathrooms, floors, dusting, laundry, etc. but do little chores all week long like picking up after the kids and dishes.
  • I'm a daily cleaner on kitchen and sweeping, but bathrooms, blinds and such are for weekends

Well I'm not a mom yet but I have three dogs and wood floors so everyday sweeping is a must. So I usually do a light cleaning in one room a day, so one day is kitchen, next is bathroom, then living room and bedrooms. Mop and vacuum twice a week. Laundry once a week. Deep cleaning is twice a month, where you scrub everything and wash walls and baseboards and fans, oil wood furniture, bleach everything, carpet cleaning. But just making it a habit to pick up and wipe things as you go makes things easier. It can be difficult to make it a habit but it can be done! I went from a slob to pretty tidy after I got married. On Pinterest they have cleaning routines, I printed one a started that way, so maybe that could help? edit: Dishes are a must do everyday, do as you use it better. Plus wiping stove and counters after cooking.
  • I keep things picked up daily, try to do 1 load of laundry a day, keep up with the dishes and counters. On sundays i do a big clean.
  • Saturday mornings are always my cleaning day. I put something on tv to listen to in the background, drink some coffee and go to town. I will sit down and watch tv for a bit for breaks. Its nice to to have everything clean and tidy for the rest of the weekend. I try to do a few loads of laundry during the week and always keep the kitchen clean.
  • I confess, we have cleaning ladies who come every other week.  I learned a long time ago that eliminating that chore made me a much happier mom.  I work full-time, commute an hour plus each way and am very good about cooking a decent meal each night.  Plus our older kids are very involved and have sports and activities to get to in the evenings.  So...cleaning had become a marathon session on weekends, and that's just no way to balance life.  I love my cleaning ladies and feel it's worth every penny.  Even when times are a bit tighter, I look to cable, phone and entertainment budgets to cut before I'll stop using my cleaning service.  When we were in a smaller, 3 bed, 1 bath split level, they charged $90 a cleaning.  We moved into a bigger house a few years ago (4 bedroom, 3.5 bath, two story) and they now charge $120.  Totally worth it.
