Daily Activities

My LO is 6 weeks old and during the day we go for a walk, he goes on his swing and plays with his play gym (plus feeding, changing and bath time). What else do you ladies do to pass the time?

Plus I feel so guilty if I'm not interacting with my LO when he's not awake but the swing and play gym there isn't much to do!

Re: Daily Activities

  • Mostly my LO just kind of tags along. He's the second kid but I think I remember similar with DD. We do a morning and an evening walk with DD, and if he falls asleep, I park the stroller at the playground and DD plays. We sit outside in the shade while DD plays. I put him in the front carrier a lot for things like grocery shopping, DD's tumbling class, berry picking the other day, going to the zoo a couple weeks ago, going out to brunch with friends, etc. He sits in his bouncy seat when I cook or take a shower. Tummy time on the playmat while DD plays inside. Last week I took both kids to family story time at the library and he was smiling ear-to-ear the whole time. It was singing songs and hearing stories. Maybe he liked hearing all the voices? Who knows, it was hilarious though. When DD is sleeping and he is awake, that is our special alone time and I focus on interacting with him face to face. Just talking to him, playing peekaboo, singing songs. He smiles and coos and his little arms and legs get going, it's awesome. I've recently started having him take an afternoon nap in the crib to get him used to it, but he won't fully transition from our room for another couple months. When he gets to be 6 months or so, I'll start taking him to his own activities like music class for babies and swim lessons and book babies at the library. For now, he just tags along.

  • I try to do something different during each wake period - tummy time on me (he won't do it on his playmat), walk outside, playmat (on his back), read a story, sing songs (that's mainly during diaper changes or bath time). We also go to his grandparents quite often or have friends come over during the day. The odd time I've taken him to Walmart or Carter's just to get out of the house.
