Gender Neutral Nursery Ideas

I know it's a little early to be painting the nursery, but it's still fun to start planning! I'm pregnant with my first and we have decided not to find out the sex.  Anyone have any colors/ideas/themes/Pinterest photos you want to share? I kind of like these two from Pinterest, but with something more colorful above the crib in the one with the white crib.

Re: Gender Neutral Nursery Ideas

  • I really want to paint the room light gray. We are going to find out the gender, but I'll decorate with pink or blue. Hubs is against gray, but I have some time towin him over...

  • We painted a neutral cream and put down a darker golden yellow and cream rug with cream cordless blinds and a grey curtain. The crib will be grey as well.
  • We're doing light grey, white, and that blue color that was really popular last year. Boy or girl. Though since I'm planning on co-sleeping, I'm not sure how "ready" that room needs to be. Lol.

We wanted to do grey, white and teal, but ended up with the typical jungle theme. If I could go back, I would stick with colors over an actual theme. It makes shopping and registering a lot easier.

    This is what we're doing:

pregnancy #1 :: daughter lost to chromosomal abnormality at 18 weeks
    pregnancy #2 :: son, born Aug 2011
    pregnancy #3 :: due Jan 2016
  • We are also doing light grey on the walls. White for the furniture and a blue and green for the accents. I decided yesterday that I'm going to paint a sky scene on the ceiling because I can lol. I'm a teacher so my plan is to have the major stuff done before school starts back up and then once we find out the gender we will add touches that are more feminine or masculine.
  • We are doing grey. Most likely with navy blue boy or girl.

We're doing a jungle theme, but DH didn't like green walls, so they will most likely be a darker shade of yellow.

  • First baby we did a very hungry caterpillar theme; reds, greens, circles. 2nd baby I did primary colors (reds, blues, yellows). This time I'm doing white and navy and then after baby comes add in corals or lime greens. I've found with both nurseries I've wanted to do more gender specific after baby comes so it's going to be pretty bare bones prior and then add in after.

  • We are team green for this one too. With my son I stuck to the neutral colors, did a camping theme. He does have a chalkboard wall (dark gray) which is just amazing. I love his room. But with this one, I want to step out of my neutral colored safe zone.
I'm only getting down the base of the room, then finishing up the details once the baby is here. Rock 'n' Roll theme (think Woodstock not Metallica), electric style. Doing the walls a light mint color, dark gray vintage dresser with 6 or 8 vintage record sleeves (Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin etc) hung on the wall above, gray double glider, black and white striped curtains. I'm going to hang this electric guitar my husband made on the wall. We will reuse my son's Jenny Lind crib.

Then for a girl, colors would be the mint, black and white and pink floral prints. I have this super cute vintage floral fabric banner I made for our wedding, that would go above the crib. I would add more feminine decor to the room (crib skirt, blanket, pillows etc), I'll just have stuff ready to be ordered off Etsy.

Ummm for a boy, I'm still trying to figure it out haha...hoping for a girl I guess :D
  • We live by the beach and aren't finding out either, so I'm doing a sea glass nursery. Grey walls with white furniture and all of the accents will be sea glass colors
  • I'm on the grey walls with white accents and furniture. I've always been a big grey and white fan. Once baby is born we can cuatomize with couloirs accordingly. I think it will grow with baby well. We are thinking of doing an accent walls with stars or zig zags... Also Pinterest inspired.

  • We did these with brown trees and teal birds on a peachy/beige base. The decals actually didn't stick so I ended up using them as a stencil and just painting it on the wall.

The rest of the room is done with brown and teal accents and accent pieces (teal baskets, brown trim on the windows)

  • I'm finding out the sex, but am planning a gender neutral nursery regardless. I want to do mint walls with accents of grey and an elephant theme. :)
  • We aren't totally certain if we are going to find out the gender or not but will stick with a gender neutral nursery regardless. @MarySMP I actually have the same pins pinned too. I'm leaning more towards the darker wood look. Both my boyfriend and I like the darker wood. And we are going to head to a flee market and yard sales to see if we can find some used furniture to redo to get and save money
  • We are doing a muted light blue and cream colored carpet. Our custom builtins were having built and base boards will be white. (We mid remodel already... JUST ordered the carpet today and the new drywall went up this weekend. Almost paint ready!)

For a boy I will add navy's and grays. For a girl I will probably add some coral in. The blue of the walls is a grayish blue.

A fun theme I've seen for gender neutral is Peter Rabbit.

I am trying to pick a color scheme to make my nursery. No offense to anyone... I done care for themes like "whinnie the pooh" and then it looks like the whinnie the pooh threw up all over the room.

Today, my husband surprised me by taking me to pick out paint samples for both boys and girls. We want to pick a shade of grey and then have one accent wall. I found A light tourquise green and a steely blue that we LOVED. We also chose a purple, but it came out a little dark.
  • We are not going to find out the sex. It's our first baby and I'm liking the darker wood with cream/beige walls. Similar to these
  • Ocean, jungle, or just a few colors that are soothing shades and go together.
  • @je&moeder yes! Love.

  • We are looking at travel as a theme. Really like Maps as art. We are finding out the gender but going neutral for the room.
  • Disney theme for our first- gender unknown. Some bright colours but some muted versions to tone it down. Will have plain cream walls. Not too sure about everything else...
  • This is my favorite

  • We aren't team green, but we're going to do an Eric Carle theme. I'm going to frame these prints and paint the walls a bright color, probably at least one will be yellow.

  • We did a woodland theme for my first. I figured for a girl we could add flowers and fairies and for a boy just keep it as his. With this one we are waiting. He/she will be in our room the first few months and I have yet to decide if they'll share a bedroom with DS or not... Definitely if we have another boy, still not sure if it's a girl what we will decide on!

I love your flea market and yard sale idea. Also if you have an ikea they have great pricing on baby stuff. My sister bought fancy cribs for her boys, literally thousands of dollars, we got ours for my daughter at ikea for $100. And she's 13mo old and it's been great, totally stable and cute!
  • We were team green with our son so we needed a neutral theme also. The colors we used were denim blue below the chair rail and a pale grey above with white trim and wooden blinds, dark wood furniture and a grey recliner. We were going to add accents of light coral or bright green after the baby was born. We had a nautical theme.

This new baby will be going into the nursery and my son will be getting a new big boy room and all of his art and accessories will go with him. If we have another boy we'll just leave the colors the same or add light coral for a girl.
  • Zulilly has an ADORABLE sale going on right now for gender neutral nurseries.

  • We're doing gray and white chevron pattern with elephants. This seems to be a popular theme in stores and there is ton out there. I want to add pops of color once the baby arrives.
  • We are doing the lion king as our nursery theme. We aren't painting walls or anything, as we live in military housing and don't want to paint it back when we move, but we plan on trying to find some wall decals to go with the theme and some wall hangings!
