Baby Names

a sister for Layla

I'm trying to think of a name to go along with my DD's name, Layla. Some names that I like are:

Zara
Nora
Mila
Isla
Dahlia
Naomi
Anya

However, for all of these, either DH doesn't agree, we like not love it, or there's some reason we don't want to use it (i.e. Isla sounds too close to Layla).  Are there any other good ideas along these lines lines that I haven't thought of?

Our last name is long and begins with a K.

Thanks!

Re: a sister for Layla

  • Zara and Anya are my favorites from your list :) I don't think either of them sound too similar to Layla and as they both would be cute to say together, I really like Layla and Zara the best :) I like how they're both similar to common names but with a different first letter (Kayla and Sara come to mind) that makes them unique but not off the wall. One name I'm considering that I think falls along the lines of your picks is Nina. I love that name so much but im still working on convincing my SO cuz he really doesn't like it.

Thanks! Zara was our backup for Layla, which we assumed we use for number 2, but for some reason we're just not as excited about it now. As for Anya, I love it, but DH hates it.

I kind of like Nina, but that's my SIL's name, plus DH's cousin recently named his baby this. Thanks for the suggestion though!
  • I like Zara best from the list. I agree that many of them are too similar/matchy to Layla.

  • I have a friend with a Layla and she just named her new daughter Noa. I like the pairing of the two.

I think part of the problem is that we like names that end in "a," so sometimes they're too similar to Layla.  I think we'll reconsider Zara and Naomi though. Those 2 had been our top 2 options (but I think Naomi kind of bothers me due to lack of "a"...).

Out of the names suggested, we've considered Cecelia (vice Cecily), Maya (vice Mia), Tatyana (but too long with our long last name...), and Gemma. A lot of the other names have been taken recently by other friends'/family members' kids.  That doesn't 100% rule them out, but we'd rather not go that route if we don't have to.

Thanks again and obviously any other suggestions are welcome :)

Rabbitheart15: I just checked out your Hannah thread and I like Lydia. However, I assume that's way too close to Layla?

Ugh, why do we only like names that sounds like the name we've already used??  We're obviously not very creative.
  • I have friends with a Layla and a Julia. They named them both for songs as music is a passion for them. I think their names sound good together, and Julia ends in an A like you like!

Out of those 2, I definitely like Zara more, it's a great name

Yes, I think "Layla and Lydia" would be too much. I think you picked really well with Layla, it's obviously your taste ;).

@HimandMeplus3 I love Julia, but its way too popular amongst our friends, family, and new babies :(

From your list, I like Mila - I also thought of using this name but will not due to even just some family members not knowing how to pronounce it. I realized this child would constantly be called "my-luh" or "mee-luh"...people never seem to know how to pronounce Mila or Meila properly until you explain or if they've seen the name before. Suggestions: Berkley, Camilla, Camille, Emilia, Kyla

I like Camilla! But it sounds bad with our last name...

I considered Emilia, but then it seems Amelia would be better, but that's so popular.
  • I think Layla and Anya work best from your list :)
