Colic and over feeding?

I am EBF a 12 week old who has colic and cries most of the day/night. The only thing that calms him is nursing. Am I creating a bad habit by nursing every 1.5-2 hours?

The other thing I wonder is if it is cluster feeding? It is very hard to tell hunger cries apart from colic cries.

He also starts daycare soon and I guess I will just be honest with them?

I just don't know what to do please help!

  • First, keep your head up momma, a high needs baby can be stressful, simply because you second guess yourself. In time he won't be so needy. One of the things you can try is babywearing, it was the only thing that saved my sanity some days.

Secondly, it's pretty much impossible to overfeed a breastfed baby, I promise. You can't force a baby to nurse, no matter how old they are. So nurse away, as often as he wants! 1.5-2 hour feedings are completely normal at his age, their bellies are still small and breastmilk is quickly digested.

  • My son turns five months on Tuesday, and he still nurses every two to three hours. It's okay to nurses babies on demand, and nursing is for more than just calories... It's comfort, too.

What makes you say colic, btw, instead of just that he is hungry? Does he pretty much stop crying after you offer the breast? If so, that might just be that he wants to eat more often than the guidebooks say he should.
