Coffee while EBF?

My son is 8 weeks old and exclusively breastfed. I'm not a big coffee drinker but lately I've been having mild to strong headaches, I actually had one terrible migraine a few days ago. I don't suffer from them but when I was pregnant they kind of started happening sporadically. I assume it was the hormones :/ the only thing that would help would be a little bit of coke or sometimes a cup of coffee. Now that my baby is almost two months old, I'm having the same problem. I am drinking a cup of coffee here and there, not often at all but still, a part of me feels I should get out of that habit. Those of you who are breastfeeding, what are you doing regarding coffee/caffeine? Is it ok to have a little bit once in a while? I would like to get your opinions.

  • Totally fine! As long as it doesn't seem to bother your baby you can actually have quite a bit. My midwife said it was ok and I have 1-2 a day with no effects on my LO

  • I drink 12-16oz of caffeine daily, usually. I drink if after my LO eats, we are both fine. I was told to watch my consumption bc it can lower your supply.
  • I drink a cup every morning. Totally
    Fine!
  • I drink 1-2 cups first thing in the morning, sometimes while I'm breastfeeding!
  • Ok great thanks ladies! I feel so much better now lol ;)
  • I just had a trenta iced coffee so there's that. I drink 1-2 a day and try to counter with lots of water (though I'm terrible at remembering to take care of myself and drink enough.)

LO sleeps like a dream and has no gas pain, so I have no issues with it.

  • I did a bunch of research on it and it seems fine :) looks like it is good to watch quantity, just like during pregnancy, but baby only gets about 1% of the amount of caffeine you consume. I avoided caffeine until 5weeks out of fear that I would jolt my LO and she wouldn't be able to sleep, but I have in and started having a coffee a day with no effect

Maybe you stopped handling caffeine after your pregnancy, when i was pregnant my heart would race and i would feel lightheaded if i had starbucks or 2 home made cappuccinos then i couldn't even handle instant coffee and i stopped, only type i could drink was arabic coffee

I haven't had any other coffee yet but i'm craving a caramel frappe and i will be having it once and see how it goes!
