Arthrogryposis

Do any of you guys know or have a child with this condition? Yesterday I went in for my 19 week ultrasound. The doctors told me that it looked at those my baby was having problems bending its arms and legs and that it looked like a part of the brain hadn't fully developed. They also told me if I continued with my pregnancy that the baby could die due to not getting the correct signals sent through the brain to swallow. If any of you know about this or have information about it, it would be much appreciated.

    I am a peds nurse and have a pt with this. He's had a few surgeries to help his arms and legs start to move but otherwise he is a happy healthy normal little boy in all other ways. He is 3yrs old now. Hope this helps ease your fears some. His mother also said she told her the same things but she decided to continue the pregnancy and have him.     I have a friend (30+ year old woman) who has arthrogryposis. She has some walking mobility issues but is amazing all around and just had a baby 9 months ago. My very limited understanding is that there is a wide range of how folks are affected, some more severely than others. It was actually just an awareness day for the condition on 6/30.

    I cannot imagine hearing such scary news and am wishing you the best as you work through the information and your decision.Hopefully that link will help you get in touch with folks who can offer more information

    I'm sorry that you got such news. I, like previous posters, don't know about this type of issue that you are having. I have prayed for your and your loved ones and little one. I hope it all works out in the end and that this is a fluke or something you and LO can beat.

    Thank you! I sure hope so too. Just the thought of possibly having to terminate my pregnancy hurts, but I know that we will have a child in the future if it doesn't happen this time.
