Restless leg syndrome?

Has anyone had to deal with RLS in pregnancy? I think I had to deal with it last night! Sucks! How can I treat this? What causes it?

Re: Restless leg syndrome?

  • I don't know if i actually have it, but when I'm really tired and ready for bed, my legs get restless!! And they still do.

  • I know it's pregnancy related. I dealt with it for a couple of weeks, but it seems that it's subsided. Some tips online is massaging the area and a warm bath. I think there is one or two threads on this from awhile back. You may find more ideas there if you search them out. Good luck! I know it's not fun.
  • I find that I have it when I eat sugar before bed, but that is just a personal observation.
  • I had it but it went away after about 2 weeks. I'd usually take a bath before bed, then have my husband massage my legs and thighs, and help stretch them out for me then go to bed. Don't worry it doesn't last too long =] going for a long walk and getting your legs worn out also helps.
  • I always know it's time for bed when my legs start to jerk. They even do it when it's naptime, like they're doing it right now so I know that my body must want to sleep!
The only thing I've found that helps is just going to sleep.
  • That and SOO itchy!! Maybe that's the mosquito bites too, but geez. Can't a preggo mama get a break? I flex all the muscles as hard as I can, til it's almost cramping sometimes, and that helps some. I'll have to ask DH to massage my legs. That sounds like a great idea!
  • Yes! Thank you so much for this post, I thought I was the only one. I started to walk on the treadmill everyday and that seemed to help
  • Yes! But I get the restlessness all over, from my neck all the way down to my toes. It feels horrible and always end up crying up a storm. DH gives me massages and it helps some but I hope it goes away soon.
  • I have a question... What does RLS feel like? Almost every night I get like little jolts of electricity either in the arches of my feet or my calves that make my legs jerk. Is this RLS? I've never experienced it before with any of my previous so I have nothing to go on. And no one I know has ever experienced RLS. What's weird is not only do I get the electric jolts in my legs but I get random spots that itch ( just briefly) all over my body. This only happens when I am trying to go to sleep.

Sounds like RLS. For me I felt a constant need to move my feet. They had this weird sensation like they were cold to the bone/asleep. I couldn't get them to feel comfortable.
