January 2016 Moms

First time Mom at 35

Hey! So it's finally happened. We've been married for 9 years and just started trying in Jan. It happened so quickly and I've been extremely lucky with little symptoms. That being said I'm almost in denial that it's actually happening! I have so many friends that have had miscarriages or issues that I'm still nervous. Had my 12 week ultrasound last week and get the results of it and the blood test next week. Hopefully then I can relax a little if the results are good. Anyone feeling this way too?

  • I am too! But I keep telling myself that I have no reason to think bad things will happen!

So exciting! I'm 35 and been with my hubby for over 12 years (married 4). We decided not to have kids till about a year and a half ago. Long story short, had to go through ivf and we were blessed for it to work first time around. I'll be 13 weeks tomorrow and I'll deliver when I'm 36. I had my nipt testing done at 11 weeks and everything came back ok and we find out the gender in 2 days...can't wait! It's ok to be nervous, I also have friends that have gone through losses and its natural. Just try not to stress (I know easier said than done) and everything will be ok. Good luck with everything @chessonm

I think people get freaked out regardless of age. I feel a bit better at each appointment and will feel much better after the first tri. But I think I will feel best after 24 weeks (when the fetus has a higher survival rate after a premature delivery). Or maybe really when all the kids start having kids of their own!
  • I'm 35 now n a ftm dh has 2 prior. We been married 4 years. we had to do ivf as well. We are expecting twins that will come when I'm 36. I've not had many symptoms at all so very hard to believe. I'm 11 weeks
  • I'll be 38 when I deliver. I was so worried about being able to get pregnant (would I even have eggs left?!), then keeping a pregnancy, then having a healthy baby. I decided to take one day at a time. I'll be 13 weeks tomorrow, and am thankful for each day. Age ain't nothing but a number. Take care of you, and take care of that baby. You got this, girl!!

  • I am 33 and pregnant with our first. My half sister had a healthy boy at 37 and a healthy girl at 42. Wishing all of you the best!
  • I had my first at 35. It was a very easy pregnancy and we have a healthy boy. Good luck and best wishes.

  • I am 35 ftm. Had my 2nd ultrasound st 13 weeks (just a few days ago) and finally feel like i can breathe a little. Waiting on the blood work to come back...hopefully all is well and a bit more nervousness will subside. Best wishes everyone!
  • I'm 36 and will be 37 when I deliver - I feel the same way as you do - could this actually be real? I do have a question for you ladies though - when do you meet the criteria for 'high risk' pregnancy - where you have ot go to the doctor more often and whatnot? Is that 35 or 40?
  • You're right easier said than done. I think once I get these test result I'll feel much better. I thought about writing a diary to record what's happening. I can't believe you find out the sex so early! I'll find out at 18 weeks at my next ultrasound. I try to only look at the positive info out there so I don't freak myself out. Call me naive, but I'm going with "it's all going to be ok".
  • I'll be 35 when I give birth to my first, and I'm also waiting to finally get the screening over with.  I'm getting my blood done later this week and my first screening U/S next week.  Fingers crossed that I get the news I'm looking for so I can breathe a sigh of relief!

My understanding is that you're only given a "high risk" rating based on your previous pregnancy hx or personal medical hx.  I don't think age alone is enough to do it, but I could be wrong.

  • FTM at 35! Will be 36 when I deliver. I know exactly how you feel. My DH and I have been married for 13 years and have been trying ever since then and finally got pregnant with IVF. It still doesn't feel real and I think it has to do with trying for so long. Symptoms have died down a lot so I don't feel pregnant which makes it even harder to believe. I want to get a fetal Doppler so I can hear the heartbeat more often and I think that might make it more real but DH thinks I will completely obsess with it which I probably will. I know it will definitely feel more real once we start showing:)

I'm a 35 year old ftm too! Just short of 12 weeks and we found out today that we are having a boy, via our genetic testing!!
  • I don't think it's "high risk" but rather advanced maternal age that is the designation you receive. It just means you have access to more tests, probably get more ultrasounds and they'll probably pay closer attention to the last weeks of your pregnancy. When I was 35, they did nothing at all because of my age and I was fine.

I don't think it is based solely on age. As I said before, I'm 37, and my doctor hasn't made me high risk or increased my visits. I'm very healthy (except a little pudgy!), and take no medications. She's not overly concerned w/my age and increased risk.

  • I'm a FTM at 40.  I don't feel 40.  Not sure what it's supposed to feel like but I don't feel it.  :)

I agree with PPs - my doctor just said that I was of advanced maternal age but that it didn't necessarily mean anything would be different, especially this day in age with all the medical advancements and commonality of later-in-life births.  We should still just make the healthiest choices we can for ourselves and our babies.  That being said, I'd really like some mac-n-cheese right now.

  • I am going to be a FTM AT 42!!!! It took me one year to get pregnant naturally which the fertility clinic says is expected. I've been so nervous about the Nuchal screening test but had it today and had great results. Ready to get rid of this nausea so I can enjoy this experience already! 12 weeks 5 days.
  • I'm another ftm at 35! There are lots of us! Sending lots of positive vibes your way:)
  • I'm 36 and will be 37 when I deliver and am 14w3d. We struggled to get pregnant and had to go through IVF. I feel like we've done every test you can possibly do so far and have been super nervous every time and luckily have had great results so far! Finally starting to relax and hope to start enjoying this experience now that I'm getting a bit more energy back! I've just been classified as advanced maternal age being over 35 and my doctor has been treating me like a totally normal pregnant person.

Lots of luck to you all!
  • I'm high risk due to age I'll be 35 next month, were having twins, previous gastric bypass & IVF. However I am pretty healthy and haven't had much of anything except for a sub chronic hemorrhage at 6 weeks.
