Amniotic fluid leaking

Hello ladies! :)
So about 2-3 hours ago I went out with hubby for breakfast, when I got back I went to the restroom and had discharge that spread past my panty liner and onto my panties. It was very thin and watery so I smelled it and it doesn't smell like urine. I know there are other ways to test and see if you're leaking or not so was hoping you ladies could help out and let me know what kind of tests I can do to confirm whether or not it is my water leaking. Any advice would be very appreciated :)

Re: Amniotic fluid leaking

  • this happened to me this morning also and i was SURE it wasn't urine since i used the restroom three times within an hour of waking and the doctor instructed me to go to L&D. after a negative amni swab i got sent home without even a cervical check. I asked a few times for the swabs or if there was anything in my own i could do at home to check in case this happens again and I just got s flat "no." i'd call your doctor to see what they advise. good luck!

  • @astraealynn ugh that sounds crappy, also why I wanted to ask on here before I go and have them make me feel like a fool. My hubby is helping me access the situation, I'm laying down for now and going to see if anything pools and gushes when I get up. Only time will tell, fingers and toes and everything else crossed lol
  • crossed for you!
  • This happened to me and my doctor instructed me to go right to labor and delivery. They need to test to make sure it's not amniotic fluid, if it is they are likely to induce you so I'd go get checked right away :) it was negative for me but they said it's important to check so don't hesitate to go in :)
  • Did anymore come out? This happened to me earlier. But has stopped since so I'm guessing it wasn't my water leaking.

Nope, nothing since. I've just had a huge increase in other discharge since but no more watery leakage since this morning hmph
  • Yeah I guess just a false alarm.
  • Well at least I'm not alone. A few weeks ago at one of my appointments I mentioned to my Dr I was worried that my water would break and I wouldn't notice. He said if I soak my panties, change into new ones and soak those too then it's my water. He also said I should smell check it.
Well today is the third morning that I wake up to either a feeling of wetness or a small wet stain on my panties. I smelled it and it's definitely not urine but it completely stops once I go about my day (or at least I think it does with the number of trips I make to the RR it's possible I just keep wiping it away). Baby is still moving so I'm not too worried but I can't stop thinking I sprung a leak.
I have an appointment tomorrow and will be bringing it up. I really hope I haven't made a terrible mistake by not going into L&D over this.

Good luck, I hope everything is good with baby! Let me know how it goes
  • I've read that if it tests negative for amniotic fluid, it could be that your cervix is thinning (some women hold onto a little fluid inside of their cervix and once it starts thinning, it could release). Haven't experienced it yet, but I would probably do what @smccall3838 did- get checked and if negative, take some strips or the whole bottle and forget the pic, lol.
@MrsJIsbell I wouldn't worry. From your previous posts, I think you'd know in your gut if something were really up. Try to relax today and update is after your appointment tomorrow!

  • I'd be careful with the litmus test. My pH test for amniotic fluid came back negative, but the "fern" test was positive. I didn't think my water had broke, but went to L & D just in case. It was just a small trickle at first, tough for a FTM to know! I figured I'd rather look like an idiot at the hospital than be an idiot at home!
  • All these little trickles, my first was a huge gush, I knew for sure! Good luck everyone! Our days are numbered, little ones will be popping out very soon!
  • I'll make sure to come back here and update. I'm sure it's just going to be something that's considered normal, I'm just not ready to hear, "nothing's happening" again.... but I'm sure that won't be the case this time!
  • Good luck, @MrsJlsbell! I'm convincing myself that these stronger contractions im6 feeling aren't worth timing since my appt is 9a tmrw morning. Please update us!
  • Well it's not my water. We did find out that in developing a yeast infection though. I guess it's possible that's what was coming out, I didn't feel any symptoms though. Oh well at lest we caught it and I have time to take care of it. Doing a 3 day treatment.
