December 2015 Moms

Continuous sinus infection, nose bleeds, gas, headaches, nausea...

This is my second child (16 wks 2 days). NOTHING has been like the pregnancy with my DD... 5 yrs ago.

Dr treated sinus infection 4 wks ago with antibiotics but the day after completing the meds, my sinuses flared up again. At this point, I am experiencing massive headaches and nose bleeds that I am told are "normal due to change in hormones."

Nausea all day makes eating and necessity vs enjoyable. Gas and heartburn are icing on the cake. First pregnancy, I could not get enough food.... ended up gaining 65 lbs (lost it all in the first year after DD'd birth). Most embarrassing fact: ate MCD hot fudge sundaes every night for entire 3rd trimester.

Oh did I mention insomnia?

I knew each pregnancy would be different but had NO idea it would be like night and day.

Oh you poor thing!! Mines nowhere near as bad as yours but this is my second pregnancy and oh my god it is so different to my first!! I threw up maybe 3 ties the whole time with my son, with this one it was constant, energy levels low and heartburn and gas oh and sciatic pain!! I am so grateful for this gift bit my god I can't wait for this baby to be born and feel human again!!
So I totally get where you are coming from and seriously hoping it gets better for both of us!!

  • Yeah, this is my second and I'm so much more sick. What is up with this?! Finally out of the 1st trimester and feeling a little more human.
  • This is my first and feelin pretty much the same feeling nauseous all time which makes it so difficult to find what u want to eat when I do decide what I want I don't even enjoy it and I get sick everyday some days worse than others I thought seen as I'm 16w5d it might have laid off but it hasn't on the up side iv got energy back which makes me feel better in myself. Some women have it all the way threw so Iv just got my head round I'm prob going to be one them .also feeling sick makes me feel secure everything is fine with baba . Does this sound stupid ?!
  • Peeking over from the Jan thread, I have chronic sinusitis and polyps. I have to stay on flonase to keep my sinus inflammation and infection under control. If your sinuses can't drain properly they become infected. Talk to your Dr about it. It is the only thing that keeps me from constantly being sick. It's category C but the benefits outweigh the risks for me.
  • Im on my fourth pregnancy, I have a 20yr old girl, and 8 and 10yr old boys. I am 38 yrs. old and I feel the same as you! With my daughter 20yrs ago I had hyperemesis and just got sick all the time (lost ten lbs.) With the boys, I barely knew I was pregnant. Now I'm 15 weeks pregnant and I have nausea, headaches, sinuses, muscle aches, can't sleep and NO appetite At ALL! Maybe TMI but I never know if I'll have constipation or diarrhea that day, it's awful! Well, I hope you feel better! - Tanya
  • I am sorry! I have severe allergies and they were out of control during the first trimester so my OB added singulair to my clarinex. I narrowly avoided a sinus infection using the neti pot and mucinex early (plain mucinex is okay--decongestant is NOT). The only times I threw up were from post nasal drip not MS. My big concern is sinus infections and bronchitis because I often get them with fevers and require steroids and 2 rounds of antibiotics to kick. My doctor said claritin is safe and clarinex is just a purer version so it was okay and that singulair is class B so pretty much as safe as it gets, I feel so much better with both. Antibotics could definitely cause diarrhea try to make sure you are eating yogurt or other probiotic rich foods when you take them. There is also pregnancy rhinits which could explain why allergy meds aren't controlling all your symptoms. Talk to your OB and see what else it can put you on, treating early is better than exacerbation leading to fevers and more serious medications.

I also asked about allergy meds and breastfeeding and my OB said that I should be able to continue them (antihistamines can dry things up...so it can be bad for supply). My OB basically said that if supply does become a challenge I can go off the antihistamine for a couple weeks and go back on it but he doesn't anticipate it becoming a problem.
