how often does your EBF baby poop?

my 6 week old is EBF & typically has 1-3 poops a day. Now hasn't pooped in almost 2 days. Still eating plenty & lots of wet diapers & gas. Wondering if other EBF moms have issues with their baby not pooping for days?

Re: how often does your EBF baby poop?

  • Sometimes 3 times a day, mostly once a day, sometimes every other day.

EBF and my 6 wk old poops every other day. Mostly. (They say) It's normal to not see poop for up to a week or many times a day! Crazy! I would think it would be painful for them to go every other day but I guess it's their bodies absorbing all the milk!!

Right around 6 weeks my girls both went from 3 times a day to going as long as 6 days. It's totally okay. They get better at using the milk so there's little waste. Their Dr said even up to 14 days is ok. As long as the consistency is ok and not hard

DD is 4.5 weeks and poops constantly. I would say we have at least 8 dirty diapers a day because she almost always poops while eating. Now I'm worried she is pooping too much. She is gaining plenty of weight though.
  • Mine is 7 weeks and EBF. She poops at least every day up to 4 times a day
  • My baby is 7 weeks abd exclusively breastfed and since about 5 weeks he poops once every 2-4 days typically. Our pediatrician Saud it's normal for breastfed babies to go up to a week as long as they're having plenty of wet diapers.
  • My DS is 6 weeks and since 3 weeks old he poops on average once every 4-7 days. It worried me a lot in the beginning but my doctor said it was totally normal as long as the poops weren't hard and pebble-like and still has plenty of wet diapers. DS doesn't seem to mind at all.
  • Dd is 6weeks and gets all BM, though via bottle bc she has yet to latch. She goes days, I realized I lose track. She had super soaked wet diapers though and when she does its normal.

It uses less diapers and she's had one blow out in 6 weeks, opposed to DD1s' once a day destroy everything in the vicinity of her blowouts.

6.5 weeks and he poops almost at every feed... Yesterday, I was greeted by the first projectile poop as I was changing his already poopy diaper. He's an "inefficient rester" when it comes to eating, but he's evidently making up for efficiency in other areas... :/
  • My baby is EBF and poops with just about every diaper change. We've only in the last week started getting a few diapers that are only wet. I'm definitely ready for it to slow down a bit. At least it's just a little each time and I'm not getting blowouts.

  • Mine started out 3-4 times per day. Around five weeks. It became one in seven days. Now it's regular every four days. She is 8 weeks now. Like others have said before. Doctor is okay with it. He recommended not over five days or if it is hard in consistency. Wish she would go more though. I swear she holds everything in and let's it go at once.. takes two people to clean her and several diapers before she is done.
  • Mine goes once about every 2 days. The last couple times its started to affect his eating so the dr gave us meds.
  • My DS poops ALL THE TIME!!!! I keep waiting for it to slow down (as I've heard it's quite normal for them to only poop once a day or even every few days). Not my LO. Pretty much every diaper change has poop in it, and usually LOTS. Plus then he will often go while we are changing him - yuck! We might have one change a day that's just pee. So I would say 8-10 times a day. Sigh.

    Yep! DS too.
  • For those whose babies don't poop for days, are they fussy & uncomfortable on the days they don't poop?
  • Nope. My LO is happy as a clam. He farts so much though, but he finds this funny
  • My son is 8.5 weeks (2 months on Monday). He usually has 4 just pee diapers, 3 pee diapers with a little smear of poop, and 2 or 3 big poopie diapers. He's an EBF baby.
  • Around 10 weeks DD slowed way down. She went from 2-3 a day to 10 days without. Now she's kind of evened out to about every other day.
  • My EBF DD will poop 2-3x one day and then not go again for 3-4 days. What I've read thats normal for EBF babies, but it freaks me out when she doesn't go for days at a time.

My DD poops once every 2-3 days! I wish she pooped once or twice a day cause she's always happier after pooping

I 50/50 bottle feed BM and Formula... LO has slowed down to pooping once every 6 days... consistency is normal, there is just a lot of it! She does get really gassy during the days in between and seems a bit more uncomfortable as the days go on. I'm not worried since she still has plenty of wet diapers and isn't constipated... but I wish there was something I could do to relieve more of the gas in between.
  • My baby is EBF and 9 weeks. She only poops about 2-3 times a week. I was freaked out and I've talked to 3 pediatricians they all said it's normal as long as when she does its soft and she's not straining or uncomfortable in between when she's not. When she does poop tho she blows out her diaper lol. Breastfed babies absorb more of the milk than formula fed babies so the "normal" for breastfed babes varies greatly.
  • My lo is very fussy on days he doesn't poop. He won't eat either ob those days
  • My baby has been pooping a lot. He also poops a lot while he is nursing. I didn't know if that was normal or not, but I figured since he is having poops it is fine. He will often go when we change him as well.. I guess he likes the open air. Also, it sounds like an explosion when he poops sometimes.
  • She used to poop 5 times a day, just recently it seems to be every other day. My first baby went 5 days without pooping regularly and had 0 problems.
  • Funny you asked this! My EBF LO didn't have a poop on Sunday...he has been having 1/day...but he had a massive one yesterday! He also slept really well ;-) I'd say if he goes more than two days without one, call doc?
