NIPT

So, I went for my nucal translucency screening about three weeks ago. I got a call on Monday saying that the lap lost of bloodwork. However, they were offering to foot the bill for the NIPT screening. So it looks like we will get to know the babys gender in two weeks instead of mid-August. I'm so excited. I was told this is more accurate than a sonogram can be sometimes.  Anyone else have this screening done, and was it accurate?

Re: NIPT

  • I've heard someone else who had the lab lose their blood work, what the heck?! yes the test is accurate and has like a 99% accuracy rate. But there's always that 1%!

  • I had it done. They said it got a low fetal fraction so the accuracy is only 80%. We'll find out in 4 weeks at ultrasound if it was correct... But believe we're having a girl!!!
  • If I'm in the one percent then my boy would be wearing all the pink stuff we bought for the first several months lol

  • They told me 97% accuracy on the blood test, but it does detect the chromosomes - the ultrasound is just a visual determination of sex.

I'm not sure about the accuracy of the sex, if that's what you're asking about, but when I called the Harmony company to ask about their accuracy rates & false positives, they told me that it's 99% accurate for Downs Syndrome, then 98% & 97% for the other two Trisomies. (I can't remember which was which.) The reason she gave me for the decrease in accuracy is that the other two trisomies are less common, therefore harder to test for. I had it, but am Team Green here, so we didn't test for the sex chromosome. It was fine & everything looked normal! Yay! Good luck!
