Head Stations

Has anybody been told where their baby's head is in the birth canal? I am finally just starting to drop and mine is at -2 station but he still feels rather high in there...plus my heartburn/indigestion is just as bad as its always been, if not worse lately. (Depending on what i eat) His head obviously came down a little bit and people can tell he is lower from the appearance of my bump, he just won't get out of my ribs and they are all sore!

Re: Head Stations

  • This chart might help make a little more sense of all of it! I feel like my little man is super high up in my ribs as well!

I'm in the same boat! Dr said she was at -2 station, but I still feel her moving high up on my belly. We have really long babies on both sides of the family, so I keep thinking she's gonna be long!!
  • I know my boy is low cause I am definitely FEELIN IT.
But he still gets in my ribs sometimes, he might just be a long baby like me. I was 22 inches.

    Thanks for the diagram!

  • So  being that far down means they have started their descent which is a good sign. Are any of you dilated yet??

Mine is at -1 and she still kicks my ribs!
  • I'm at -1 and still have bad heartburn! I was shocked when the doctor said he had dropped because I feel like he's still all the way up there!
  • As of Wednesday, our LO is at -1 station and boy does my bladder know it!

I just learned I'm 80% effaced. @nalise88 I had to Google what that meant! Some docs just give more info.

    I'm 3cm and 80% effaced
  • I just learned about stations this week! At my 37 week appt this week I found out I'm not dilated yet, but 75% effaced and at 0 station. We're thinking he's long too because he's still getting under my ribs!
  • I'm with you @nalise88, I don't get any info :-S
  • No kidding about the no info. I'm 38 weeks and have not even had a cervix check. All I know is baby is "head down". I think baby has dropped though because my belly seems to be a different shape (more elongated and less basketball like).
  • At my 38 week appt. I was 1 cm, 60% effaced but she didn't tell me what station. She remarked how incredibly low she was though. It baffles me because I can still feel her playing my ribs like a piano but my bladder is also suffering so who knows maybe I'm carrying Shaquille O'neills love child.

Don't feel too bad, the only reason i know this is because i specifically asked. I made a point to bring it up, otherwise they would not have told me how low he was exactly. All that was mentioned was that she thought his head came down a little bit...They also never tell me effacement percentage, i have to ask

  • For a FTM, does baby have to drop a week or two before active labor?  I am almost 39 weeks and baby still feels very high up -- in my ribs.  I'm worried that she hasn't engaged yet.  Could I go into labor with her at -4 or -2, etc?

Labor can happen anytime. Dilation, head stations etc are not indications.
